Milk Thistle for improving acne.

Posted by Mark on March 20, 1999 at 01:47:32:

Walt,

I have heard that because milk thistle is so good for the liver, it improves acne. How much of acne is caused by toxics not being completely filtered through the liver? I have heard that people see results within a week of taking milk thistle. Ive read everything on the bbs and dont want the "wellness program" as an answer to this question. Has anyone used milk thisle before?

Hi, Mark.

I think a significant amount. However, everyone's reaction to any toxin is driven by the functional capacity of the hypothalamus (see my response to the question about healthy people getting acne, today). Regardless, I would not be surprised if people got benefits from milk thistle and liver function enhancement.

It is just that the more important problem, in the long run, will be the hypothalamic function & the correct application of SR is the only thing yet known to address that.

Even if the milk thistle helps a lot, that benefit will not last forever and, so far, the "wellness program" that you don't want is still the only sure way to solve it forever.

VERY FEW of us want to put out the effort to be well. Many people would sooner die of cancer, heart disease, strokes suicide, etc., than do it. That should be anyone's choice once they know it IS a choice. At least acne is not fatal.

I recently started taking Milk Thistle for an acne like condition (perhaps psoriasis or seb. dermatitis - the doctor was not even sure). I cannot say that it has helped for sure, but I have not had any outbreaks in the time that I have been taking the thistle. Other factors may also be responsible: 1) stopped smoking (however, I did that months before and still had outbreaks after), 2) cut back on my alcohol consumption (same caveat as with smoking), and 3) began exercising and diet and nutritional changes. Perhaps all of these changes in combination have eliminated the outbraeks (both in their impact physically and mentally). At any rate, I am sure that there is never a silver bullet for any condition: one must live healthy to be healthy.
Cheers!

Yes! I read about it in the magazine "Woman's World",it said it could help your skin in about 2 weeks. Right, I thought. Well, guess what,it does work!! My skin is 100% better! Much more even color, etc. I figure by the year 2000 I will be taking a bunch of herbals, having recently read about the miracles of grape seed extract.

Thanks, M.K.

This is the first I have heard of this. I hope you will continue to keep us up on how this continues to work (or doesn't). It would be wonderful to have something like this that would help people while they were getting rid of their causes.

I have not tried the milk thistle. But have heard of its use for acne before (Grandma remedy). PLEASE if you have any information that could be of any use, contact me. However, I am a breast feeding Mommy so I must be careful not ot ingest anything that could be harmful to my baby.
Thank you, Tricia

Hi, Tricia.

I will be very interested in hearing of your experience.

I still say that "Chronic problems like acne will never be resolved by something you TAKE but by something you DO."

You will eventually have to deal with WHY you (at age 30) still have acne. If you do not, those causes will have to send you a louder message.

When you are ready to learn about those mechanisms, spend a few hours on the link I have prepared for you below.

THEN, if you still have questions, write again.

Hi, Nikki.

I am not a god enough Herbologist to answer your question. I would be interested in hearing it myself. The only connection I would know of is the effect milk thistle has on liver function and the detoxification attendent to that.

Go to the link page and contact the Herbologist. Then, let us know what you learn.
