Vitamin A , Acne, SR, and Deep Massage

Posted by KMD on October 03, 1999 at 13:27:15:

Hello!

I read through the acne archives the other day and had jotted down somewhere the dosage of Vitamin A you said you used to use successfully and safely with your patients (before you knew about SR and other things). Now I can't find the paper I wrote it on, and I can't find it again in the archives! I would like to take Vitamin A while I am still in the beginning stages of learning SR. I'm thinking you said 20,000 IU, but I am not sure...

I have been doing SR about a week now. My acne is very flared and painful, and I was hoping the Vitamin A will give me a boost in healing until I have been doing the SR long enough to help the acne.

I read the archives on SR, and I was just like the person you called "too far gone" for SR (can't quiet my thoughts or relax). I have taken your advice on this as well, and asked my husband to give me deep massage 3 times per week (he agreed!) I've had one massage so far, and it relaxed me deeply, to the point where I did feel like I was "floating", sort of paralized feeling, and extememly sleepy. With this being the case, should I try to do my 20 minutes of SR before the massage (since I am too sleepy afterwards to stay awake)?

This acne seems to be getting worse instead of better. I even had 4 small pimples on my ARM!!! (this has NEVER happened before). Most of my severe acne of my face is right around my lips on the edges of the lips. I am worried that the chapstick and vaseline I use for my SEVERE DRY CHAPPED PEELING LIPS (remember that?) is making this acne worse!!

Thank you again for your help. I hope to one day be able to write a testimonial saying all my problems have been resolved.

Dr. Stoll,

I forgot to ask you if I should take the full dose of Vitamin A (which is ?? IU's) at one time or spread it out 2-3 times per day. Also with food or on an empty stomach? Thanks :)

It was 200,000IU, and it is not as safe as you thought. Dr. Stoll monitored his patients. You might want to go to a doctor that will run tests on you every month, to make sure the Vitamin A is not hurting you.

I subscribe to the free "YourRealAge" daily e-mail. Today's subject was about Vitamin A. COINCIDENCE -- Ooooh! Anyway, it cautioned against taking more than 5,000 IU of Vitamin A per day total in all supplements, saying that it advances AGING!! (oh no!)

For acne, if you do recommend the Vitamin A to help me get through this chronic break-out (I am doing SR and taking essential oils), how long would I take it? One to three months or so??

Thanks!

Hi, KMD.

You WILL get there.

The dose was 200,000 units a day but I would not recomm, end you do that without supervision by a knowledgable doc (MD/mutritionally oriented, Chiropractor/nutritionally oriented, or Naturopath. It would be easy to get in trouble with this dose if you took it longer than 2-3 months.

Hi, KMD.

ALL fat-soluble vitamins can be taken just as effectively once a day as oftener. It is the water-soluble ones that need to be divided.

Hi, KMD.

Yah, that would be about right.

HOWEVER, at that dosage, you really need to be followed by one of the profesionals I mentioned---even for 3 months.

What if you happened to already BE at just before the toxic level for some reason unknown to both of us? You would be in the toxic level in a week.

You could look in a good textbook about vitamins and note the symptoms of toxicity of vitamin A. THEN, if you had any of them, you could stop at once. The problem is that fat soluble vitamins are stored in the body. You might have to go a year or so with those problems before your level dropped back down. These dosages are not to be trifled with.

Just because I never saw any problem in years of using those doses means nothing for you but a little better luck of the draw. You notice that I checked each person regularly during those doses.

Walt

Maybe I'll just "nix" the A idea!

Hi Walt,

If I were rich, I'd get myself a wonderful doctor like you and go there for regular check-ups and follow-ups. However, that is not the case, so I settle for what the Air Force offers me (my husband is active duty).

I don't want to lump all military doctors into one basket and say they STINK, (there ARE some good ones!) but to give you an example I went to one several months ago for migraine relief and he wanted to put me on Prozac and birth control pills!! (Yes, for the migraines!) I refused both, which really made him mad! I also nearly suffered liver and gall bladder failure while in the hospital recovering from a broken hip (at age 26) because the doctor prescribed a bad combo of drugs and the nurse injected it intravenously (what should have been intramuscularly injected)... Not to mention what they've done to my husband over the course of his battle with testicle cancer (could have brought a lawsuit over that one!)

Needless to say, I try to solve problems on my own now. Hey everybody, MANIFEST me some great health (and a million dollars while you are at it!) LOL!

I don't trust doctors implicitly anymore. I triple check everything they say. Hey, knowledge is power! I'm a walking encyclopedia on autism now (due to my son).

Thanks, KMD

Thanks, KMD.

If EVERYONE was wise enough to be like you, the allopathic monopoly would disappear at once.

Keep up the good work!

Namaste`

Walt
