ACNE

Posted by JAY on December 13, 1999 at 12:20:02:

I was on Accutane for 3 months, and afterwards my skin was clear, but still was red, um I had stop my treatment cause my blood test came back and my liver count was a little high, they tested me again said it was fine. Its been few months now and my acne has broke out again, and my hair seems much oily now. My doc wants me to go back on for two months, Im kinda of wondering should I do this, or not. I work out almost everyday, and I am now useing phisoderm, My question is do you think its safe to go on 2nd treatment for two months, I am 22 and college student and I work full time. My life is stressful, and I know Im goodlooking but this acne really kills my self confidence, and I just want get rid of my acne what would you suggest and please dont say check the archives, because I do and they never answer questions I want to know about.

Yes, I know I'm not a dermatologist, but my dermatologist told me that it has tested and proven that you get the absolute BEST results from Accutane if you go on Accutane for at least 4-5 months, otherwise there is a VERY good chance that your acne will come back. I think you should go back on it because there is a good chance that it will clear your skin and why not take that chance? Basicly what I'm saying is that you can't expect results from Accutane after only two months of treatment, you have to be on it for longer. Take care and good luck.

I think you should find more research on the amounts of time you can be on and off. When I was on Accutane I had the same problems. I stayed on though because the doctor said that if I would stop I couldn't go on for another 6-12 months. If your doctor said try again, I would! I feel free from acne. I was on prescriptions for 7 years and Accutane was the only thing that work for me! Good luck.

I stopped and my skin was good for a year. aThen the worst it all came right back, this was really lame. So Im back on Acutane in for the longhaul because its worthless to do it and not finish. You want good skin don't you? Just deal with it.

JAY.

Sorry to see that you are missing the point of all this posting.

1. The solution to chronic acne is to deal with WHY it is happening. Practice "wellness" and it will go away. I KNOW you can go to the glossary and archives about wellness.
2. The second point is that just getting rid of the symptoms is not what you want to be aiming for. See the notes about this on today's BB.

I would be very intereested in your helping us change things so that these 2 messages would get through to people who spend any time on the archives.

Hi, JAY and emay.

As I have said many times: Perhaps the worst thing that can happen to someone is if accutane, or any other magic pill, actually resolved the acne.

I'm sorry, but what kind of statement is that? It is PLAINLY obvious that you don't believe in Accutane Dr. Stoll, but you cannot sit there and say that Accutane doesn't work because it has worked in MANY people. I've tried all that natural crap for my acne and it didn't do squat, but once I went on Accutane my skin cleared up great. It has now been almost 10 years and it hasn't come back. You can deny it all you want Dr. Stoll, but you are not helping anyone with that attitude.

Dear What,

You have obviously not taken any time to understand what I have said on this BB. I recommend accutane so long as people do not foolisly think their problem is solved if the acne goes away. Do you REALLY think that acne is an accutane deficiency?

Until you do better with that, you had best not embarass yourself by mouthing off.

See the notes I have placed on this BB, today, about this common misconception.
