Accutane,can it kill you?

The more I hear about this drug the scarey it is. Seven years ago our youngest son took his first accutane at age 20,he took the drug on and off for the next 18 months or so. Never more than 80 mg a day, a low dosage. It was working,a few side affects, nothing major. Then in 1994 he developed MDS (myelodysplastic syndrome)a fatal blood disorder ONLY curable by a bone marrow transplant. There had been a chromosone change in his bone marrow by some outside chemical influence. We lost him 4 months after the transplant from complications due to host viruses. Anyone who has had a loved one or friend who has taken this drug and developed a blood disorder shortly after, such as leukemia, MDS, or aplastic anemia should contact the FDA via their physician or counsel.

You need to request the micro fiche from the FDA with all the reported side effects to the FDA. It is not a complete report, but I think it will very much enlighten you to what's going on with this drug. You will be amazed at what they know this drug does to people, especially young people. Also 80 mg. is the highest dosage allowed in South Africa on the Roche pharmaceuticals package insert. It is not a low dose and they write that that dosage should only be given in severe cases.

Thanks, Nan.

I am sorry for your loss (and HIS).

This especially upsets me since he could have known about the alternatives and he would still be here IF he had been willing to do them. As you know, many teenagers will not do what they know. At least he would have been given the choice.

Who knows if this was the actual cause of his condition? The thing is that there are over 500,000 new chemicals in the environment today that never existed on the face of the earth before 100 years ago. None of them have been tested for long term safety and EACH of them causes a small (multiplying) stress on the immune system, bone marrow, fertility, brain chemistry function, liver detoxification systems, etc.

Accutane would just be one more stressor, on top of all the rest and COULD have been the "straw that broke the camel's back".

Until people are taught (as a culture) that they have to take responsibility for this kind of thinking (and not just trust the doctor to do their thinking for them--which the AMA has promoted for at least 100 years as the only way to do this) this kind of stuff will continue to get worse.

Already medical treatment, in this country, is the 4th most common cause of death. How bad must it get before a knowledgable and aroused public puts a stop to it?

This is, in NO way, your fault. It is the fault of the "system" which is why I am donating so much of my time to at least give people the option to "save themselves from the disease-care crisis" AND do what I can to stop the abuses by the monopoly.

Walt
