Hi Dr.Stoll:
I am 20 years old and i consider myself a person who suffers from acne. I'm writing to you because i don't want to take accutane, but would like your advice as to what alternatives i may consider to control my problem. i have been on many antibiotics and was very successful, the only problem being that i came down with a yeast infection and i really hate that. so, now its been about 8 weeks or so since i've been off minocycline ( was only taking it for about 2 months or less) and i am starting to break out. i switched my skin care regimen completely to Sheseido brand products. i am afraid that they may be the cause of this, but i highly doubt it. i have only been an acne sufferer since i began university 4 years ago. no doubt, i'm stressed, but i don't think that these breakouts cannot be controlled. 3 of my dermotologists recommended at one point to take accutane, but i refused. i even can't stand antibiotics, but i had no choice. please let me know what i can do, or where i can research how to heal my face.
Sincerly,
Lily

Hi, Lily.

You have come to the right place. However, you are going to have to put in a few hours learning about this. This same question has been discussed MANY times, right here on this BB over the past few years.

Go to the archives and read everything you can find about acne, accutane & accurtane side effects.

THEN, if you still have questions, write again.

I have been dealing with a company called Vital Image. Their products are all chemical and solvent free. They have dealt with all kinds of acne and have had great success. One thing they have recommended is placing a wash rag soaked in chamomile tea on my face. It helps calm the skin. My acne is getting better. But it has been a process.

The skin is the largest eliminative organ. So if your kidney and liver can't keep up with what's going on, your skin can break out. Lia at the Vital Image says the skin has a long memory too. I'd give them a call and see what they say. I believe in their products. They are at 1-800-414-4624. They are very friendly and helpful on the phone.

Best Wishes!

Sharon
