I am an ecological Kinesiologist not a doctor;

Cystic Acne, is an inflammatory skin disorder and can clear up with the proper diet usually. Also look into food allergies; Allergies, Stress,heredity,oily skin can be factors contributing to the cause;
Over consumption of junk food,saturated fats, hydrogenated fats, and animal products; nutritional deficiencies; exposure to industrial pollutants are also factors; The body sounds like it is toxic and the kidneys and liver are perhaps overloaded, toxins then escape thru the skin.Pores become clogged.Working with diet with p.h. balance can help assist you; Taking Essential fatty acids like flax oil caps is good,Garlic, Vit A is the skin Vit also and Silica; Vit C can also be good. Herbs Burdock root and Red Clover help;Avoid alcohol,over doing butter,cheese, chocolate, fried foods hot and spicy foods, shortenings and sugar products; You can try getting off those foods and or dairy products for one month and see if that helps; Good luck, this is the info that i know about it;

Last year I had sebacious cysts ALL over my face. They lasted about 6 months and they were not pretty. I visited this web page religiously and started taking essential oils and changing my eating habits. I got my last one in February, and although I have added some junk food back to my diet, I consciously think about the sugar I put into my body. I still take the oils, though not as much as I started off doing. If you have sebacious cysts...do this! It works, I promise. I felt helpless a year ago and I still knock on wood when I talk about them because I cannot believe they are truly gone!!! Thank you, Dr. Stoll!

Thanks for your testimonial, Katie.

Thanks to you, too, Terri-Lynn!

Pray that it will help others to see that what we are talking about here is valid.

Re: cystic acne at age 49 and what do I do?

I am new to this bulletin board and am finding it difficult to follow much of this information. All I want to know is what did Katie do to get rid of the sebaceous cysts all over her face? And I sometimes find it confusing as to exactly what I am supposed to read on the BB to find my answer because there is so much information and I usually do not have the time to spend hours on the computer. However - I do go to various websites for references on various subjects and questions for which I need answers - which is how I ended up here - looking up the subject Accutane.
I am 49 years old and in the last 10 years developed skin problems with mild acne that I never had before - even when younger. (I am also convinced this has to be partly hormonal -because of the changes I am experiencing also in the peri-menopausal phase.) Up till then I had pretty decent skin and this has been very upsetting to say the least. In the past 6 months my face and back and arms have gone ballistic with SEVERE acne plus exzcema (sometimes I cannot tell which is which) - and I have now taken practically every antibiotic known to man. (Plus Differin Gel, Benzoyl Peroxide, Azaleic Acid and Bactroban for the open sore parts.) Right now I am back to tetracycline and it seems to be helping somewhat. The exczema started with intense spots of itching all over my back and became oozing sores which are just now starting to heal on their own. I had to use Cordran to help with the itching or else I could not stand the itching. However about a month ago my face was getting so covered with infection from acne (this was the deep kind - not just whiteheads and blackheads) that I did not even want to go out of the house. I felt that if this continued my whole face could become one big sore. Using make up was my only recourse to go to work and it was getting difficult to cover it up with make up. This has been like nothing I have ever seen before and is causing great distress. It starts with these strange streaks on my face where the skin appears to get thin and then becomes infected. Now - I have scars and I have never experienced this before - not even when I was a teenager. It is very discouraging. My dermatologist says she has tried every usual recourse of treatment with me and nothing has worked. She now wants me to use Accutane and I keep refusing because I have had this gut feeling that is so INSTINCTIVELY NEGATIVE about Accutane -and cannot shake the feeling. I refuse to try Accutane. So - anyway - I need to know the basics of what Katie did to get rid of these sebaceous cysts. And what are sebaceous cysts exactly? I have a feeling this is what I have on my face even though the dermatologist just calls it all "acne." My dermatologist says if we change antibiotics every 6 months -they should continue to be effective. Is this true or not? And CAN EATING PEANUT BUTTER AND NUTS CAUSE THIS IN SOME PEOPLE? Just from reading this BB I have started taking one Flaxseed Oil capsule per day. I already do regular cardiovascular exercise each week plus exercise with weights each week. My job as a social worker for an urban area is so highly stressful that I do not see the stress level lessening in the job area - I need to stay at this job due to financial security. I JUST NEED THE BASIC PLAN TO GET RID OF THIS SKIN PROBLEM!
(Also - as a side note - Dr. Stoll if you read this: I could not believe this was the same Dr. Stoll that I knew about so many years ago. I also lived (unfortunately) in that same farming community you lived in the 70's and remember you coming into the hospital there to do your rounds after having gone jogging - or something. I worked in the hospital there and you were so very different from the people in that community (as I'm sure you already know)and there was always a "broadcast alert" when you were in the building because they found you so intriging. (I think it is more than generous of you to participate in this web site and do not see how you find the time to give to this.) Anyway you were of MAJOR interest and intrigue to the strange people in that extremely narrow-minded, economically/culturally depressed and (in my opinion)disusting town. I lived in that area for about 20 years for marriage reasons and found that it contributed to a really unique type of stress in my life the whole time I lived there. I now live in a larger urban area and could never return to that type of environment. I hated living there and my problems with acne actually started after living there about 20 years - as did also anxiety attacks.)

Victoria,

Dr. Stoll wrote some articles on the homepage and anything you don't see there, just click on the link to the archives and type in your subject.

I think using the oils, the Essential Fatty Acids, will be very helpful. Many people find it most useful in a ratio of Omega 3 to Omega 6 oils. It seems to me that some oils have greater effects on those your and my age (peri-menopause) because of certain phytochemicals in them. At any rate, try the 3's and 6's as Dr. Stoll suggests and use hot compresses.

As for the stress, using skilled relaxation is a technique for helping the body discharge great stress. It is suggested to be done 2 x daily for 20 minutes (and not within 2 hours of going to sleep) and properly performed SR can discharge many times the amount of stress as taking a nap. SR has many positive effects inside and out. Dr. Stoll suggests a book called, "The Stress Reduction & Relaxation Workbook" by Martha Davis. You can use these techniques to counter-act the high stress of your job.

Hi, Victoria.

What was your last name in Kenton? Yes, I am happy to say that I am the same wierdo. They may have thought I was strange but no one doubted my competence, did they?

To have acne at 49, you MUST have a hormonal cause; just as is discussed many times in the archives. I can empathize with your "difficulty" with this 'site because we have not been able to afford the expensive programming needed to make a site like this real user friendly. However, although it takes time to use it, the information is there that you need. It is designed to be sure that, if the person can spend the time, they will get what they want AND save me repetitionus typing at the same time.

Listen to June (Thanks, June!)

The amount of essential fatty acids you are taking is not very likely to help. The correct dosage is on the home page. Next, the SR is critical for getting hormonal balance back to normal (especially at your age).

Nuts CAN trigger acne but, at your age, is not likely to be the only cause. Removing them COULD be an adjunctive procedure till this is cleared up.

Spend as much time as you can in the acne archives and ask questions as they come up. Let us know what you experience.

Check out the wellness archives and use the glossary for any unfamiliar terms. Welcome to the 'site and it is nice hearing from someone from the old stamping grounds.

Namaste`

Walt
