B5 Acne Testimonial- Week 2 Weirdness

Hi Everyone-

A week of weird discoveries!

I'm having a weird problem with the B5 for acne. I was at 8g per day last week. Skin was looking only OK, but improved.

Here's something curious and probably pertinent- A colleague of mine who always stocks Dove Dark chocolate in her desk was sick most of the week last week. So, quite incidently, I had NO chocolate last week, where I usually have 1 or 2 small mini pieces a day (it's my only vice, I even stay away from wheat, alcohol, diary and sugar most of the time, so I figured chocolate probably wouldn't be enough to push my system into revolt. Or maybe not. Read on). My skin is crystal clear- and it happened over the course of about 3 days. It's still clear now, which is even weirder because...

I've had to stop the B5 as a test for something unrelated. Around the same time last week that my skin started to clear up, I started my second menstrual period of the month. Not normal. I have had an IUD for about a year now and am doing pretty well with it. Until last week, my 2nd week on the B5. The bleeding was heavy. HEAVY. Heavier than ever before in my life. Saw my ob/gyn over the weekend, who was at a loss to explain it. The only X factor was the B5. So I stopped it Saturday to see what would happen. The bleeding decreased significantly and within about 12 hours. So I tried a 2g dose of B5 Sunday morning to see what would happen. Sure enough, I started bleeding heavily again. This is weird!

So, I still have some testing to do, but this could mean 2 things:

1. A bit of chocolate a day is absolutely enough to make my skin AWFUL. I have always been a believer in food affecting the skin, but I'm so good the rest of the time that I thought I could cheat a bit... you get the idea.

2. Not only did the B5 not make much of a difference (at least for me), but it is making my poor uterus bleed! Has anyone heard or read anything about B5 or other B vitamins increasing or causing menstrual flow?

A very interesting week! Let me know of any info you might have!

Cheers,
Cara

Zinc may help acne. 100mg. of zinc gluconate daily. A B5 dosage max would be about 250 mg. You need a good multivitamin, multimineral as your base supplement to go with a good diet plan including eggs with their balanced amino acid structure. An egg as you know as enough material to make a chick. Experiment with the number of eggs daily to make the mind stable.

When my daughter was young enough to celebrate Halloween, I would have her candy while she was at school. Then about November 15th, I was broken out like crazy. Then I put two and two together and figured that it was SUGAR! I try to avoid sugar, but it's so hard, especially with all the candy bowls that exist around the office--just like your office!

Well chocolate & sugar can be toxic to the system.

I also know that b5 can make hair fall out! I was taking it to help my hairloss through stress & it made it worse, so......

If you follow the diet in ALCAT (www.alcat.com) you'll find out what
foods are inflammation foods and often, acne is just a sign of
inflammation.

Sounds to me like you are actually having hormonal issues with the
acne and the bleeding. B5 shouldn't be doing that at such a low dose.

Plus it is not uncommon to have an acne flare at menstruation
(scheduled or not!).....

So it could be a fluke, it could be the chocolate, it could be hormonal
or, none or all of the above!

I've done the alcat test and so has my son. Since a week into the new
diet (which is temporary) there have been NO headaches or acne at
ALL> (and he is 13 w acne before and frequent headaches). I have
not had a "sinus" headache at all.

If I eat even the smallest piece of chocolate, I break out. I don't think it is the sugar. There is something in chocolate that effects the way your liver works. I know this because when I took a live liver function test, chocolate was one of the no-no's on the list of foods. Just like grapefruit can effect your liver (that is why grapefruit is not allowed when taking certain meds). Smoking is also a no-no. I think when it comes down to the basics, a poorly functioning liver causes acne. A bad liver (not that you are really sick, just not functioning optimally) can cause hormonal imbalances (a big cause of acne), toxins to build up in your system (another cause). So, treat your liver well... try a mild liver cleanse, eat the right foods, don't eat anything that may effect your liver function. In the meantime, you can try to reduce the acne by balancing your hormones with herbal supplements and doing saunas to get rid of some of the toxins.

Hi Holly-

Thanks so much for the info, and I agree 100%. One question- what supplements can I take to "balance" hormones? Ideas?

I tested a TINY bite of organic chocolate this week. Sure enough- HUGE pimple on the bridge of my nose!

Thanks!

Cara, was it the high density chocolate? I wonder if it would make a difference.
