Skin not healing

Posted by Bill J. on February 16, 2001 at 23:20:21:

Hi, I was hoping to get some recommendations for my problem. I have been following the wellness program to improve my complexion. It has in fact helped substantially. It has worked so well that I have given up the harsh chemical treatments that I used in the past: benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, etc.

Sometimes I go out for dinner with friends and can't stick with the whole foods diet. So, I still occassionally get a pimple. The problem is that when I do get a pimple now, it takes forever to heal. They remain for weeks on end. In the past, it healed in a little over a week or so.

Is there a likely nutritional deficiency involved here? Any recommendations or suggestions?

I have heard that slow healing is sometimes a sign of protein deficiency. I have tried a high protein diet in the past, but I have trouble with them. Typically, excess protein causes insomnia. Could this problem be related to protein?

I appreciate any suggestions that you might give. Thanks. Let me know if you need more info.

There are probably a number of things that it could be, but one of the signs of a zinc deficiency is impaired would healing.

LT, thanks for the suggestion. It probably isn't the zinc. I take zinc supplements regularly.

I have the same problem. Yesterday I started taking free amino acid complex, All-Basic by Montiff. Also multivitamin and antioxidant products by them. If it works, the results are supposed to show within about 2 weeks. I will let you know how it goes.

it was worth a shot. Okay, how about....

MSM? It helped my skin when I started it. Sulpher has great action on the skin, although not everybody will have the same effect.

Are you getting enough Vit. A? (nmi)

Thanks. Good suggestion. I used to take MSM, but I stopped some time ago. Perhaps it is time to get back on track.

Thanks again.

Hi, Bill.

Thanks for the testimonial. How long have you been doing the entire program? Which did you do first and when did you successfully add the second and third?

Namaste`

Hi, Bill.

How much zinc and for how long? One of the truisms of supplementation is that much too high doses tend to cause the exact same problems that long term deficiciency states cause.

Dr. Stoll, I have been taking a 50mg once a day. I think that is within safe parameters from my understanding. Is this correct?

Thanks.

Definitely keep us informed. Was this protocol recommended to you by someone?

I started everything about the same time over a year ago. The SR has been easiest for me to stick to consistently. The exercise and diet have been much more difficult to stick to, particularly the exercise. I would have to say that that has been my biggest weakness. So, it is an ongoing process, but I have been consistent enough to get some good results.

I also take kava regularly to keep down my stress load.

Thanks for the wonderful material on your site.

Yes, it was. I was referred by a health food store salesperson to an amino acid biochemist who seems to be a distributor of Montiff product line. He was the one to recommend the protocol.

I have problems with pimples from time to time but can
get rid of them fast. I rarely take zinc now since I don't
need it for muscle aches like I used to since taking a Few
MSM's that helped that. A friend said that his Dr told him
that zinc will cause pimple eruptions as it gets rid of
toxins and Claimed he got them Exactly where on his back
that the Dr told him and touched him. Sounds hokey to me.
I usually get pimples on my scalp, face, and neck no matter
what i am taking and they seem to come in bunches.

I have been rethinking my zinc supplementation as well. I read that excess zinc can cause copper deficiency, which can impair healing. I will test this out by reducing my zinc and increasing my copper for the time.

Thanks. I will start the MSM again too.

Hi, Bill J.

Certainly for most people. However, there are factors that could make it too high for some. Since you still have no answer as to your problem, if it were me I would stop it for a year and see what happens.

Hi, Bill.

There is a Bell Curve of results from ANY program. What I have been recommending will work in nearly 100% of people but only if each leg is done perfectly.

Done imperfectly the % results will be less depending on the person's genetic susceptibility.

It is entirely possible that your less than perfect is a significant factor in your success.

Dr. Stoll,

Hmmmm. Thanks for the suggestion. Although I was already in the process of rethinking my current zinc supplementation, I did not expect that it would take up to a year to sort it out. I thought that results or indications might show up quicker than that. Why a year?

Hi, Bill.

Excess zinc stores in the body.
