Straight Answer

Posted by Dr. Craig Knox on January 29, 1999 at 07:48:00:

How many times do I have to hear "Read all the info on acne and accutane info on this BB and THEN try writing again."? For God's sake, why can't you just give a straight answer? You sound like a robot. A childish preaching robot who seems to be completely void of emotion. I'm just elated for your past patients that you quit practicing.

Dr. Knox,

The answers to questions on acne an accutane are already here. They are long and complicated sometimes. For Dr. Stoll to sit here repeating himself over and over would not be a good use of his time. He is really trying to help as many people as he can, and if you read the board, you'll see that he HAS helped a tremendous number of people already. He can help more people if he answers new questions instead of going over and over the same things.

I'm surprised you would need to have something as obvious as that explained...

be well,
trish

Craig,

If you find it so disturbing to you, why do you keep reading it?

Are we struggling with masochismic tendenncies?

Perhaps you should ask Dr. Stoll about that...

Also, perhaps you haven't noticed but Dr. Stoll's practice is flourishing as all his loyal "patients" can attest.

I do thank you, though for your reminder of why it is so many of us ran away from so-called "doctors" like you.

Hi Dr. Knox,

Do you have any spare time? If I had to answer all these questions I probably would have run off into the woods long before now. People do need to scroll down for more answers, read the articles, read the book, etc. Mary J.

Have you used accutane, and would you prescribe it for your loved ones? Many here have use it more than once. The miracle pill doesn't always work. There has to be something out there for them. Self education is just a step to better understanding. Personally, I think reading is good. It gives you options.

Craig,

If you really have been following this BB for awhile, you would have noticed that often times the same question can be asked by more than one person on the same day. For Dr. Stoll to give a "straight answer" to each one, he would have to be on this BB 24-7. Do you commit that much time to your patients? And would you do it without getting paid for it? I commend Dr. Stoll for having the information here for all of us to benefit from. Most doctors are offended by lots of questions, not to mention the detailed questions asked here, and it's usually because they don't have the answers or just don't want to take the time with their patients like they are being paid to do.

I recommend that you read Dr. Stoll's book. It would be of great benefit to you, and even greater benefit to your patients, who I'm really concerned about. You write with the emotional maturity of a 12 year old. I can't believe you're a doctor.

Sara

1) There is so much beneficial archived information on this BB that Walt's response to check it is out is more than reasonable and not at all unkind. He encourages self-education, and has provided an extensive reservoir for self-education material right here. The guy puts over 6 hours a day for free into this BB. He has to be able to cut corners somewhere.

2) How sad for your own patients if they are at the mercy of your apparent anger load.

Do you provide a free bulletin board for all of your patients to post questions to you at any time of the day or night and somehow manage to answer them all in some way or another? Dr. Stoll tries to get people to realize that they ultimately are responsible for their own health so that we do not have to resort to visiting uncaring doctors like you. Lord knows I have seen enough of them.

If it weren't for laziness most of the questions wouldn't even be asked.

Perhaps a visit to the 'home' page of this site would give you the answer you are looking for. The 'new visitor FAQ' section takes you to a 'before you ask a question' option. This explains how questions are constantly repeated and thus the answers are in the archive. It even goes on to say how the "read the archives, and THEN if you have a question please write again" is a typical response.

The answer Dr. Stoll is giving daily is as straight forward and polite as he can possible be for those who have failed to take the time to look in the archives before asking a question. It appears that not only did you fail to make it to the archives but that you skipped the 'new visitors FAQ' section all together.

And so, you have joined the ranks of those who are wasting everyones time and wasting space on this BB. Hopefully you have set the example as what NOT to do and this 'thread' will be archived ;-)

Dear Doctor Knox,

I am already donating more than 6 hours a day giving out information on the BB. You try it!

For those who want to be well, surely they can spend a little time looking at the information that has been entered on this BB so many times before.

OR would you have me spend more than 24 hours a day until I burn out & cannot do this anymore?

There are millions of people out there who need this information and only one of me. Perhaps you would like to join the BB and do what you seem to be suggesting that I do? You are welcome.

Walt

If more people were willing to take responsibility for their own health, i.e., do some reading, learning and educating themselves, we would need to use doctors a whole lot less and Dr. Walt Stoll is doing the world a great favour by providing us with resources to do just that. Perhaps you would like to peruse these archives to see what vast store of knowledge is available here, free, to everyone. And then you will be able to stay well and help your patients to do the same.

Dr. Knox,
I write my response to your vastly disrespectful post. I am a corporate president who should be ashamed of my personal laziness as should you be. I am one of those people who ask the sometimes dumb, same questions without reading. When Dr. Stoll directs us to seek knowledge he is also telling us politely to get strength. We do not expect him to solve every problem, but we need his guidance and we respect his own struggle with your narrow minded kind. When this poorly managed society finally gets the knowledge we richly need and deserve, thanks to the direction of people like Dr.Stoll, my guess is your arrogant type will be living on the outskirts of civilization dieting on all those left over bottles of medications you idolize and cherish so dearly.

I'm sure Dr. Stoll appreciates those of us who rise to his explanation and his defense in matters such as this.

However, I personally doubt that Dr. Craig Knox, or whoever he is, will ever set foot in this discussion again, much less read our intellectual, angry, or otherwise posts in response. Much less go read the archives etc.

He is what I call a "Troll". He throws something into a discussion group just to cause problems. He has no intention of benefitting medically, or otherwise from any discussion that ensues. He benefits only if he causes upset and replies. Whether he ever reads them or not.

So I usually just ignore such people and their "trolling" comments, as I believe Dr. Stoll has wisely done so far.

I agree with you fully. I was not suggesting anyone else do as I do (or as I don't do).

"We are what we think about all the time." I heard this recently and I tend to believe it. What we think about all the time, good or bad, usually seems to happen/occur/exist. So I think there is some point to simply ignoring some people, some opinions, and some situations. We certainly ought not "fight" them. If we think about them repeatedly, if we focus on them, if we fight them, somehow they manifest even stronger and "Win". Not a scientific explanation, but that is the way things seem to "work" in the world for me. So consider this an "observation" rather than a "conclusion".

You have really shown your ignorance by not reading for
yourself all the advice that has been previously given. I
took the time to read Dr. Stoll's book and two more he
recommended, then began to follow his instructions in
dealing with fibromyalgia. I am 50% better six months
later.

I had been to numerous practicing M.D.'s, who had nothing to
offer me except "There is no cure" and "Here is a
prescription to help you get by". They had no explanation
of why I came to have fibromyalgia. Dr. Stoll looked at my
complete medical history and has proven them all wrong in
the hopeless prognosis with the advice he gave me.
Fibromyalgia is reversible, and conventional medical
practitioners need to recognize alternative medical care
that WORKS. If you will read Dr. Stoll's book and the other
information that can be gained from this BB, you will be a
better doctor, if you can get over being so

Friends,

I, basically, agree with you both. THIS time I did respond to the "doctor" because I wanted to give him a chance to contribute to the BB he would (small chance).

Unlike some BBs I know of, I encourage honest and constructive criticism so long as it is not personal and destructive.

In this case, the guy was SO obvious that it brought out the indignation of many people. I know I appreciated it and believe it gave many "lurkers" a boost at the same time.

Namaste` to you all! Walt

I think that messages like Dr. Knox's--that song "It's a Hard Knock(Knox?!!) Life" comes to mind--and the responses that followed in some way brings us all closer together. We all banded in defense of a common goal! :) I for one, feel a new e-Bond. (And it's gotta make Dr. Stoll feel pretty darn good--it's like the movie Patch Adams, we're all standing together!)

Namaste' all.
