Accutane and cleansers

Posted by w, lee on February 01, 1999 at 14:11:13:

I've been on accutane for about a month and I have a question regarding facial cleaners. I've always used noxema to cleanse my face, should I keep using it while on Accutane? does it affect my treatment? Another question I have is in regard to topical creams. During the course of my treatment I've continued using my Clearasil acne cream, Is this alright?

(like I just replied to anther message) I'm not going to give you all the junk that they post here ("go read everything about Accutane in the BB" or something). I know how bad acne is for your self-esteem so I'll give you my opinion, and hope that it'll help you. so here goes...
It's all right to use a cleanser during treatment, as long as it's oil-free. You will later on find that it's also necessary to use a moisturizer as well (also oil free) because Accutane makes your skin very patchy and dry. Cleaniness always comes first, no matter what medication you're taking.
During Accutane, I was also using Eurythromycin (anti bacterial) pads that my doctor prescribed me. He said that if it helps, then I should use it along with Accutane. It probably doesn't matter too much by using an extra topical medication...because medication on the surface of the skin doesn't get absorbed into the body that well (as compared to oral medication) so it shouldn't interfere with the results of Accutane.

I do not regret using Accutane. It seems that everyone is blaming tragedies on a drug. People should have looked into the side effects and beaware of what they put in their bodies before putting the blame on a medication that in my opinion has changed my life.
I have had acne for 10 years..I am now 22 years old and i don't regret one bit..My self esteem and self-worth are back..I can wear whatever i want to now, before i couldn't because i acne had every where you can think of...back, shoulders, neck, chest , and face. It was very painful my school years because i was always made fun of..Every time i woke up I had a bunch of new pimples. I even went to apoint where i just didn't look in the mirror....
I applaud this Accutane, it has changed my life for the better and i wish i had used it sooner...I recommend it to any one who has a severe problem like i did.
I did not experience depression or anything like that.
The only side effect i had was dry lips.
