Posted by Tyler Foy on April 05, 2001 at 15:16:27:

I started on pantothenic acid(B5) vitamins two days ago and I have been acne free and old acne is going away now at a quick rate!! In just two days!! I havent had any side effects and i'm currently taking 7.5g a day. Every thing is going very awesome. Not even accutane worked for me but these vitamins are doing it without a problem! I just wanted to spread the news of happiness!! Chow!

This is the third time I have heard of taking pantothenic
acid to cure acne in the past two days. Wondering if it is
such a wonder vitamin, why this has never been mentioned to
me before by either my gyno. or my der

Wow, just 2 days! That's great, congratulations! I was pleased when mine worked in less than 2 weeks. It is still working for me after a month. I hope everyone with acne will try this before accutane. I never would have thought anything could REALLY work like this for me, until I experienced it myself. I've had acne for probably about 18 years now, so this is really a huge relief.

rose, your message got cut off. But I think I can answer your question. First, B5 is fairly new and not many people know about it yet. Secondly, doctors won't make any money by recommending it to their patients. Sad but true! Try it, and then educate your doc. My doc wants to read the info - so that's a start!

Also, according to several media reports, many doctors get their education from drug manufactures' salespeople, not from medical literature that publishes study reports. The doctors also get incentives from pharmaceutical companies to prescribe their drugs. On top of that, many medical doctors were taught that nutrition doesn't have much to do with health or disease, so they naturally disbelieve any info about using vitamin, minerals, enzymes, herbs, diet changes, etc. to treat health problems. It doesn't apply to all doctors, of course.

I also notice that before I was talking Pantothenic acid certain things I ate would cause breakouts. I eat those same foods now and there is no difference! My skin stays just as clear! Anyone else notice this? I'm still problem free! Chow!

Actually, all this talk...made me go out and by a bottle
today. When I realized I would be taking in about 30 pills
a day just to reach the 7.5g, I consulted my next door
neighbor about it who told me that vitamin B can cause
serious liver problems. I then called a cousin who is a
pharmacist and asked him about it. He is getting back to me
on it by Monday. Unfortunately, I am starting my accutane
next week, so monday might be too late to find it all out.
Thanks for the advice anyhow...and I'll let you know what he
says about it's affect on t

I don't know the side effects from taking that much B5, but I would think that Accutane is hard on your liver. Just do your home work and Good Luck!

7.5g seems like a lot. Are there any side effects? Because 500mg seems to make me wired.

Tyler
You said that some foods caused your breakouts. I feel that this is true for me too but I can't figure out which foods. If you could let me know what breaks you out, that would be helpful.
Thanks

ummmmmmmmm....mostly anything with hydrogenated oils or an excessive amount of spices or overly sweet tasting foods. I'm vegetarian anyway but I stick to sandwiches and pastas and salads, its a healthier way of life anyhow! Anyway... If you have any other questions just ask :] Chow!

my son has had acne for 2 years and been taking antibiotics and cream from the doctor - this has never cleared his skin. we went to a herbalist and spent 200 on all sorts of weird pills and concoctions - the best thing about this was that my son changed his diet to a much healthier one! His skin improved slightly but it was very erratic. He has been taking 4x500mg of Vitamin b5 twice a day for 10 days and his skin has improved tremendously. We are going to gradually cut down now and see if the improvement continues.

Yes, I've noticed the same thing. I'll eat something before
that would seem to make me break out. But since I've been
taking B5 (2 weeks now), I have not had a single break out.
I don't know why this is, but I'm not going to complain...
because I'm "happy"
