I've heard that acutane is mainly for people with cystic acne. However, I have a few friends that have gone on it and had no cystic acne whatsoever before taking it, however they just had mild acne. Now there skin looks great. Ever since I reached age 18, my skin started to break out, but I don't get cysts or anything. I just can't stand these constant breakouts, and I do get lactic acid peels every two weeks at my facialist, but I am still breaking out! I model, and just want to be able to have clear skin, like the skin on my chest and back, which never breaks out. I want to have clear skin, without make-up! Will acutane, maybe in a lower dose help me, and are its effects permanent or will I eventually break out again?

The reason accutane is available "by prescription only" is that the doc is supposed to do a complete workup on each person to see if it is indicated AND safe for that person. Unfortunately, most physicians are lazy about this & so lots of people are damaged (exactly as the public is beginning to learn about MDs & antibiotics).
If accutane is your only consideration, you are REALLY missing the boat. If you are the least bit interested in the meaning of that statement, expend the few hours it will take you to educate yourself on the meaning of persistant acne and your options for resolving this message your bodymind is sending you. Go to the archives for this 'site and read everything you can find about acne, accutane & accutane side effects.
THEN, if you still have questions, write again.
