Accutane and Alternative Treatments

Posted by Brian on March 06, 1999 at 14:13:56:

5 years ago I had very severe acne. After going through every product available over the counter with no or very little results, I went to a dermatologist. After again trying just about everything he had available, I went on Accutane for 8 months. My skin and life changed for about a year, but then I the acne came back. Now, the following is the only thing that I have found works, and it is somewhat of a mimic of accutane, without the possible liver damage that accutane causes. (Although you should check your blood sterol levels before/during taking any medications for prolonged periods with Vitamin A (or variations) in them)

1. 30,000 IU Vitamin A (Retinol) (this much of the beta carotime version of Vitamin A will turn your skin orange)

2. 800 IU Vitamin E (d-Alpha Tocopherol)

3. 20mg Zinc (Gluconate)

Taking these together in one dose every day at around the same time, along with a multi-vitamin, my skin has stayed clear.

You should also do Skilled Relaxation so the acne won't stand a chance of even coming back! Then you won't have to deal with trying to clear it up, cause it will have already been prevented! :)
