When is it going to work?

Posted by Sarah Williams on March 07, 1999 at 01:16:04:

I hope I'm posting this in the right place. If I am, I need help in answering a question. I am 18 years old and have been on Accutane for 2 months and 4 days. My blackheads have been clearing up, but other than that everything is as bad as it ever has been. I am currently on 40mgs one day and then 80mgs the next. I am five two and weigh 145 lbs(if that has anything to do with the dossage). Should I be taking more to get quicker results? I don't know if I can trust my doctor, I hardly know him. So should I wait it out, or ask him to increase my dossage?

Hey Sarah!

There is tons and tons of stuff on Accutane posted in the BB Archives section. Dr. Stoll volunteers 6 hours of his time a day to anwering people's questions so you could save him the trouble of typing the same stuff again by checking there. Just look under acne. It will also give you other alternatives with NO side affects that help your overall body, too! :) This acne is caused by stress, and it would be much better for you to start the skilled relaxation program and respond to the signals your body is sending you through your skin outbreaks. Trust me on this one! I'm 25 and had acne which is going away (actually it's GONE right now!) since I started this SR (skilled relaxation) 2 months ago. And I feel 100% better, too! Best of luck to you! :)

Hi, Sarah.

The reason why Accutane is "available by prescription only" is that the prescribing doc is supposed to do a complete history, physical & laboratory workup BEFORE prescribing it. This is to keep complications down AND to be able to answer questions like this.

If that waa not done, you should find out why since no one else can answer it for YOU. Read your package insert. The less you know your doctor, the more you have to learn on your own. Who can you trust?

You would be wise to go to the archives for this BB and read all you can find about accutane, accutane side-effects and acne.

THEN, once you begin to understand your options--if you still have questions--write again.

Walt

Accutane saved my life literally by keeping me from deep depression. I hope that it can do the same for you.
