Accutane/

Dear DR. Stoll
I am 28 yrs. old and have suffered from acne since 7th grade. I am seriously considering accutane, I feel like it is my last resort. I have acne on my face, back, upper arms, under chin, and other places I rather not say. I have severe acne scares, blemishes is these places also. I've been to the Dermatologist! But medicine will work for a while and then acne will occur again. I don't want to see another pimple as long as a live. I am very scared off the side effects. With my luck I will be the one to get all of them. What do you mean when you say that having no side effects is worse than having them? I am desperate for help! what do you suggest I do. Sincerely Danielle

Hi, Danielle.

What have you tried using for your skin condition thus far? I ask because I know of several things that really work, none of which involve drugs, but I won't go into such a lengthy post if you've already done them.. .

Joan!
thanks for all the informative posts- they are helpful for those of us who dont have the time to look around on the internet ourselves for health articles!

Anyway, could you pass along your ideas that "really work" for acne? I think a lot of people that have tried SR and a perfect diet but stil have acne would benefit.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Sincerely,
Sk

Go see your doctor. I have been on accutane AND I LOVE IT! It is the most wonderful prescription out there! I, too, tried everything; creams, other antibiotics, diet, trying to de-stress - nothing worked for the long run. Just keep your doctor informed on how everything is going and if you would get any bad side-effects (I didn't), then your doctor and you can discuss about lowering the dose to find out what works for you. It is a very individual drug. I take 10mg a day now, (I started at 40mg) just for maintenance. I LOVE IT, I LOVE IT, I LOVE IT!!!!!! Your self-confidence will improve - I hated having my children touch my face, because it hurt. But now I love touching my face - it is so soft and smooth. I hope this helps - good luck from someone that has been there, done that!

on taking 10mg for?
