I completely disagree with you, Walt. I lead an extremely healthy life. I eat right, and I excersice regularly. I also have acne. It is mild. It is also the exact kind that my mother had when she was a child. Acne has been proven to be hereditary. Why do you feel that you know more than 75% of other doctors?

Dear Nina,

Isn't it interesting that, of the 3 things that produce the wellness effect (as agreed on by the entire world's practitioners): skilled relaxation, exercise & whole foods diet, the only one you are NOT doing is the skilled relaxation. Of the 3, for acne, the skilled relaxation is by far the most important.

For chronic conditions, I DO know a lot more than 90% of the conventional physicians in this country.

I have had to learn that there are some people who would sooner die than learn anything new. You are an example of one who would sooner have acne than learn anything new.

When you decide to get rid of it, learn what the world (except for you) knows about skilled relaxation and do it right. THEN, if you have the guts, come back & tell us what happened to your acne.

Good luck! Walt

Dear Mr. Walt,
It boggles the mind why one would be so decidedly nasty to people requesting information. It is strange that you would depict yourself as an expert in the field of chronic disorders when you seem unable to cure yourself of the chronic affliction, namely that of the God complex. let this be a wake up call to you, if you cannot control the mean streak, get off the advise columns and get a life. Something somewhere else I'm sure will make you happy. Your wellness is at steak!

Niahar,

If you are still wanting someone to "beat around the bush" you are on the wrong website. I am too old to waste my time.

WOW, YOU ARE NASTY. BEATING AROUND THE BUSH & BEING NASTY ARE 2 OPPOSITE EXTREMES, MAYBE YOU CAN FIND SOME MIDDLE GROUND. I NOTICE THAT ALTHOUGH THE SUBJECT HERE IS ACCUTANE, YOU KEEP PUSHING THE EATING, THINKING, & RELAXING TECHNIQUE, WELL I DID TRY THEM. ALL 3. BUT I STILL HAVE ACNE. MAYBE YOU CAN GIVE SOME ADVICE AS TO HOW I COULD MAKE THAT STUFF WORK. AT LEAST THE ACCUTANE WORKED FOR A WHILE. THIS STUFF DIDN'T WORK AT ALL.

Cary,

If you are really serious about this, I would need to know EXACTLY what you did that you think should have worked; how long you did them & in conjunction with which ones at the same time.

I am not blaming you for not doing it right. Who is there who would have helped you understand why you had to do what you did right? Even what IS right would have been really hard for you to learn.

It took me more than 30 years of practicing & teaching this before I really began to understand it. I had hundreds of patients during all this time & saw which ones got well & which ones did not. I do not expect you to have known what to do with LESS expereince. After all, it was my business, hobby and life!

I currently came across your "theory" on acne as I was browsing through info. on the subject. I myself am in my mid 20's & have had a seemingly incurable case of ance since early adolescence. To say the least, I was rather discouraged by your ideas. You report that there are three components to acne prevention: diet, exercise, and relaxation. As for the first two, I'd say relative to my clear-skinned friends, I'm near upper percentile of those who actually adhere to a regular exercise regimen, and I stick EXTREMELY close to a healthy diet (fruit & veggies, protein, carbs, H2O and the whole nine yards). I could use a little help in the relaxation dept., but I'm not THAT far off base w/it. I've been on accutane THREE TIMES, and still have persistent mild acne. I think your theory is way off base, and that there is a strong herditary component to this. Both my mother and brother are sufferers as well. I have extremely overactive oil glands despite the fact that I avoid grease. Not to mention the endless fidings that refute exactly what you report to be true. You are trying to influence a very vulnerable population--be careful what you say!

Dear A.,

Too bad for you. I note that the most important part of the wellness approach (effective skilled relaxation practiced at least twice a day) is the part that you have not done.

Also, if you had bothered to learn before attacking, you would know that all 3 legs of the wellness stool magnify each other. If you do one, it is worth 3 points; two is worth 9 points and three is worth 27 points. You would get much more good out of the efforts you put into your diet and exercise if you did all three.

Dont' knock it till you've tried it! "You are trying to influence a very vulnerable population--be careful what you say."

I have practiced medicine for more than 30 years, Half of that time recommending the conventional approach & half the wellness approach. I have seen the difference in the effectiveness in hundreds of people. Where is YOUR track record?

This is not MY "theory" it is the general conclusions of therapists from the entire world. I wish I could say I had come up with it but it is not mine.

Ignorance is curable just by learning. I think it interesting that you are SO resistant that you would put such a note on a BB, where people are trying to learn, without your having any basis but your resistance for the note.

Walt

Warning to sufferers of depression

I have now been on acutane twice. Both times I had to stop treatment (althought it was doing wonders) because of severe depression. I have suffered from mild anxiety/depressioin for over 9 years now and have been treated with Prozac and Zoloft. Never have I experienced such problems as when I was on Accutane, and the effects never fully left either.
If you are being treated in any way for depression, anxiety, etc, please please please read the new info posted by the FDA about accutane and suicide. It's not worth the risk-and most doctors are unaware of the connection-I know mine is!!!
