Hello everyone. I quit caffeine 2 weeks ago cold turkey, had 1 day of headache, that was it. I drank coffee for about 10 yrs. prior. Last night my husband made a pot (about 8PM) and it smelled sooo good I couldnt resist. (I have been drinking 1 tea a day since I stpped coffee). Anyway, I had 2 cusp and awoke this morning anxious and jittery. Could the caffeine have done this to me after 12 hrs.?

when I was taking an ephedrin-based herbal formula for sinus my heart would react during the night, many hours after dosing. Caffeine is a drug, so sure.

I think thats great you were able to go off coffee cold turkey! Your body was use to functioning without the caffeine. I drink one to two cups of decafe coffee a day. The other day my husband made a pot of regular coffee and didn't tell me. I drank a large mug not knowing it was full strength coffee. About 9:30 am the caffeine hit me. I knew immediately, that he had made the real stuff....lol
I felt jittery, anxious, IRRITABLE.....

Hi, Brenda.
You betcha!
As you gradually increaased your caffeine intake to whatever level you used for those 10 years, your bodymind accomodated itself to that dose (a protective mechanism we all have). When you have been away from it for a while that accomodation is gone. THEN, when you reexpose yourself to it you learn what caffeine had been doing to you all those years without your noticing it.

Thank you Dr. Stoll. Is it true caffeine after not being ingested for awhile can mess with your bowels? I also had a little diahrrea today, Im assuming it could be the caffeine. I went a couple times, and it stopped.

Hi, Brenda.
It is true that caffeine influences intestinal peristalsis. So, stopping it will cause changes and restarting it will produce changes as well.
