Advantages to seeing a Rheumatologist-Dr. Stoll

Posted by lovebird [20.3291] on June 21, 2007 at 01:12:29:

Hi Walt:
What advantages are there to seeing a rheumatologist? Are there any questions I should ask or anything they can do or add?
As I told you this orthopedic surgeon wants to put together a team and wants to include one.
The strong meds never did me anything but harm so I went the alternative route but I did set up an appointment and wonder what they know that I dont.
Do you feel the ongoing blood work and SED rate check are necessary?
Are they mainly pushing expensive medications only? I feel so good without them through all these years.
I dont know what to ask.
I am going to get along with the surgeon.
Any thoughts?
Or....this is funny...should I take one of your books and is it my role to educate them? That has been the case all along.
One woman I know says to me "you MUST be seen by a rheumatologist so the medications slow down the progression. I have heard that so many times.
I feel good on supplements and vegetables and throw up on steriods, methotrexate, Enbrel etc..

Just dont know what good it will do

Hi Lovebird,

There is mounting evidence that RA has an infectious cause..
The doc that want do do blood work should be doing more than just the Sed Rate..

Is there a plan to put you on antibiotics?

here is an article that your doc might benefit from seeing..

Sorry, Lovebird!

Today's Rheumatologists" are so thoroughly steeped in the Tolstoy Syndrome that they are not only hopelessly narrow minded but actively destructive to their patients--in MY opinion. Thirty years ago I participated in a nationally broadcast TV program with a Rheumatologist, Orthopedic Surgeon and myself in Cincinatti, Ohio. The hour long program allowed for audience participation. Both of the other "experts" inaisted that diet had nothing to do with arthritis while all of the audience (personal experience) agreed with me that diet was a vital consideration. Now here we are, 30 years later, with the entire profession admitting that diet DOES have an influence! TOLSTOY SYNDROME is still alive and well especially in the ultra specialized!

There are beginning to be a few out there who are opening up their minds as they see their patients doing better with holistic information but I have no way--other than self education--to find them.

If your orthopedic team says they cannot function with out "one" it is the first black mark I have seen against them. If they cannot individualize your management, with your input as a modifier, I see no good outcome for you. Rememer, you can just nod and say yes and then ignore the Rheumy's advice--in my opinion.

Namaste`

Walt

Thanks Walt:
I do understand.
The one I picked is alternative and does go along with our beliefs.
The previous one was an idiot, destructive and negative.
Am I correct in having completely changing my lifestyle not matter what? I believe it am and theis orthopedic surgeon does respect my beliefs and is happy I am not on drugs and strong meds but diet and supplements.
Thanks
You are one smart guy.

Hi Ron:How are the girls?
How are you?
The rehumy I picked is alternative and I am sure open.
I have had infections often with RA.
I have to have new knees and hips soon...the new bionic woman..
I will not change what I have learned here or give up my positive attitude and faith.
I had one rheumy that was a dumbo.
It is fun to be in control.

Are you being forced to go? I've never understood this sheep-like mentality. I see a perfect match, though.

Walt: You should be so proud of me being your student because all of these so called experts say "it is a miracle you can even walk"...ha
They all ask what I do.
And I talk about you and all I have APPLIED to my new lifestyle.
I learned early that they are stupid, negative and need some good books like yours.
Cant fine the Tolstoy info.

Another question...
I will have more insurance in January and so I will have not one penny ever to give to this surgery plan.
I am very close to one of Jan's friends from Boulder who told me that the clicking and noise from hips and knees is normal preceeding surgery. I want to know if I can wait that long to begin or just to go along with him during summer vacations and schedules etc and do one before the end of the year
Also can I pick my brand of replacement like Johnson and Johnson and do you know the BEST materials for hips and knees.??
My plan since he is an acee of a guy is to go along and make adjustments later with insurance etc...I like being a flexible patient..

You know everything..you are the answer man...

Thanks, Lovebird.

These are questions for your surgeon. Once the decision to have replacement surgery has been made timing is no longer so important.

Lovebird,

Others have found the Tolstoy quote by going to the search engine. Also, it is in my first book.
