Ankylosing Spondylitis

I just found this very interesting and educational article by Dr. Gabe Mirkin on Ankylosing Spondolytis. It summarizes research articles on AS dated 1996-98. I thought I would share this with readers of this board. It's nice and short, and it includes a bibliography of research articles. The good news is that understanding of this condition is really improving. The summarized research suggests connections between ongoing gut bacterial infections (in particular, Klebsiella) and AS. One paper found that reducing starch in the diet reduces pain in AS patients--sound familiar?

David,

I didnt read the article yet but I thought I'd relate a little info.

I have a friend age 28 and he developed AS hmmm I cant exactly remember when maybe 3 years ago? I might be off in that.

Anyway I tried to get him to look at his diet at that time to look for possiable influences that the diet played in his body developing AS. But I'm not sure if you know the type; but when I 'suggest' something he often does the opposite if you know what I mean or just ignores me or argues the opposite.

Anyways ... he did end up taking fish oil and glucosamine and condrotin for his condition. And his condition went away mostly. I think his doc told him it went into remission; and that it was common for AS to do this.

Now I dont know too much about AS nor if what he took did help or if the doc was right about the remission part but; that would be interesting if the stuff he took helped him.
Oh he did take prescription medication for the AS too; I think a strong form of anti-inflammitory not sure what else.

I know this doesnt have alot to do with what you posted but; I had to tell my story :)

I'll check out that article now ...

Sean
