E-diet results and food allergy testing

Posted by Rebecca-NYC on March 12, 2002 at 19:40:27:

Several folks on the site were interested in my results for the e-diet and so I will post them. I was very grateful to labrat for querying me about whether I was an HG or an AG - I was so sure I was an HG that when I finished the 6 day e-diet (I lost 10 lbs.) I immediately added coffee as a food to test and to my surprise, I had no reaction - no jitters, no nothing. I then tested lamb - got foggy brained, but dismissed it as an anomoly, then the next day I tested calves liver and crippled up in minutes - I've tested grains and veggies and meats and to my utmost surprise have discovered that I am a true AG. I love eating the citrus fruits in the a.m. and love having coffee, though I am losing my appetite for it (true to form) - I still maintain my base diet off the e-diet and have the approved fish or chicken at lunch and dinner along with loads of appropriate veggies. I wasn't having the suggested salad every day at first, but when I did add it I had such intestinal cramping and huge bm's - which I attribute to not enough fresh veggies in my day, so I am adding them more slowly and the incredible thing is I am never hungry and I am losing weight and my RA is at a steady level or diminishing. I have started the Pepto protocol and the wierd thing about that is that my tongue is black in the morning - must have alot of gram negative bacteria in my system - I have also added the permavite and that is making a big difference too - the e-diet was painful in the sense of unloading toxins previously tucked away in my joints - but I am so grateful for it now - and to have a master plan of my food allergies is amazing - things that are particular to me, it is amazing - I will continue to test foods and learn what my body wants and is allergic to - my family wants to start this right away and I am happy to guide them and to make this site available to them as a reference - I still have a ways to go to get rid of the last vestiges of this horrible condition, but I am sure this will happen in a few months - my gratitude is abundant and I am profoundly aware of how this site and the information therein has changed my life.

best wishes

Thanks Rebecca. I followed your story with interest (from before "the crash") and am so glad to hear your results! ...both for the information (of general interest), and to know how much you are learning and benefiting. cheers!

Thanks for posting this. I was looking for your post, but somehow missed it until now!

It is great to see someone successfully complete this important experiment. People don't believe how much it can help them until they go through it themselves.

How many days have you been testing so far? I belive you have around 21 days or so until your body loses its hypersensitivity...still you'll know how to identify a reaction.

Did you test grains?

re: the pepto - black tongue is a common side effect and actually mentioned on the package. PErsonally, I freaked out the first mornining, but found out it was normal, and brushed off with my toothbrush. Did you feel better from it? How long did you do the pulsed doses of pepto before adding permavite? The problem you can run into is testing too many things at once- then you dont' know what helped and what didn't!

Keep up the great work!

if you're not done testing food, you should hold off on the pepto. It will mask your food reactions.

If you go to the the BB archives search, enter the word "pepto" and you will find search results that will give you your answer. It is a great resource, one that I use weekly - the archives, I mean. The same for the e-diet. I learned so much from doing it and from the food testing. How wrong I was about the foods I was "taught" were healthy for me and the discovery of what my body specifically reacted to - it's a goldmine of info that only you can learn for yourself - I highly recommend it.

I just finished the 21 days before the permavite (which I think is keeping me awake at night a bit)and pepto - I can't thank you enough for challenging me to re-think my stance on whether I was HG or AG - it has made a huge difference - thanks for the info on the black tongue - I am not so weirded out - as I accumulate benefits I will post them here - without being hyper-vigilant, I would suggest that everyone on this board do the e-diet abd food testing - so simple, economical and informational - I would bet that at least 50% of the conditions that present themselves would disappear (perhaps more) re: grains - I have tested rice (I'm ok with small amounts) and whole oats (again, ok with small amounts) I had a stress-eating moment with a piece of bread and crippled up in minutes - I don't have to become one of Pavlov's dogs to be able to say "never again"! (Or at least, not until my gut is healed....then I'll test again)
Best wishes -
