Recent car accident - neck shoulder pain - NEED HELP!

Hello all,
I was recently in a rear end collison from not one but two cars. One rear ended me, and a 3rd car rear ended the middle car which caused the middle car to hit me again.

At the time, I seemed ok, but 2 days later, I woke up with searing pain in my upper back/lower neck and left shoulder. Went to the doctor, and of course he wanted to prescribe strong muscle relaxers and narcotics. I dont like drugs. I am trying physical therapy after x-rays and MRI ruled out tears/breaks, etc. The physical therapy is verrrrrrrry painful! :(

I recently learned of a product called BAXYL which consists of Hyaluronan which is suppose to repair, heal, and rebuild whatever may be wrong in my neck and shoulder area. Is anyone familiar with this product? I can't sleep on my left side at night because the pain wakes me up, and I'm also self-employed and it's affecting my work.

PLEASE any information anyone can provided would be GREATLY appreciated!

Do you have a place that hurts more than the others? The pain could be running to some of the other places.

I would suggest you get yourself some scotch snuff, it has awesome pain killers in it. When I stop pain I found out that I had to surround it or else it would run, surrounding it probably would be very hard to do but you could try putting it between your shoulders and your neck and see if it would stop your neck from hurting, and then fill back toward your shoulder. You would need to mix the snuff with hot water, not real hot and you would need to take it off and reheat it about every 4 minutes and keep doing this until the pain permanently stops. The way to tell if you have gotten enough of the pain killer in your body. I did a video were I burned myself with hot tobacco over 200 degrees, even though tobacco killed the initial pain in 39 SECONDS I knew that that wasn't long enough to permanently kill the pain, it took between 1 and 1 1/2 hours to permanently kill the pain. I saw on the internet where a woman got splashed and burned by 200 degree water and she was really having a tough time and she posted that, someone replied to her that her pain should start to ease in about 10 DAYS. If you start to get a headache, a stomachache, anything out of the ordinary, take the tobacco off but don't smell the hot snuff, it can make you nauseaous just by smelling it.

You may think I actually wasn't burned much, I could actually mash on the burn once I had permanently kill the pain, but if you watch the videos you will see it turns into a nasty burn.

Call your doctor and ask for a prescription for massage. The insurance company would likely pay for the massage -- call them.

If massage alone doesn't help you (and quite often that's all you need), then you may also need chiropractic help.

Yes, it is common to not experience whiplash symptoms until several days after an auto accident.

Usually it takes about 6 sessions to resolve something like this, sometimes more.

after my car accident, I seemed ok, but, two days later I was not. Had stiffness and pain in neck area and rib pain and had some limits on movement. All I did was take aspirin and hot baths and give it time to heal, which it did, completely.
No guarantee the same will be true for you, but, if your doctor has ruled out breaks, you might just need time (and aspirin for inflammation).

So sorry for your injuries. I would suggest actively treating this injury to prevent lifelong problems with your neck and upper back.

It's also quite possible that other areas are affected as well. The fact that no major injuries show up on the imaging studies does not mean there are not micro-tears and other soft tissue bruising/damage that can be very painful.

I concur with Jan about seeking massage therapy. Most PT I've experienced after injuries is active work--where they tell you what exercises to do--how to stretch, how to use elastic bands at home, lifting weights (always too heavy), or they park you on a machine and let you do all the work. Massage therapy is typically more passive work, where the therapist manually work the muscles and connective tissue, and does assisted stretching to loosen them and relieve spasms.

Chiropractic care is just as important as massage therapy--I would consider that the gold standard of care for whiplash injuries. You should be entitled to seek any kind of care you need. Be sure the chiropractor has copies or access to your x-rays and MRI images. The chiropractor may be able to advise you on helpful supplements.

Be sure not to sign off on your injuries right away with the other drivers' insurance companies. Tell them you are still treating your injuries and wish to consult with a massage therapist and chiropractor. You may be entitled to lost income if you are unable to work effectively. Document the time lost for pain (the number of hours you would stay home from work if you had an employer) and time spent at appointments for treatment.

I've heard of Baxyl, but have not tried it. You may want to at least try anti-inflammatory meds or supplements (like bromelain) so you can get some relief. If you are not sleeping, your body is not able to repair the damage. Perhaps a short course of pain relievers and/or muscle relaxants might allow you to get some rest. SR (skilled relaxation) would also be helpful, but it might be too painful for you to do it for very long right now.

The neck is obviously more complicated but things that aggravate it will only slow the healing. The most important thing is for the segments and tissue to be in proper alignment during the healing process. If they are not in proper alignment then they heal misaligned and that's what leads to future problems and arthritis.

The human body is a self healing organism IF you can get rid of what's interfering with it.

I posted this to show others what has happened in Ontario... since so many Physio clinics sprang up under a previous Conservative government in the mid to late 90s... They have become predatory and have caused Car insurance rates to skyrocket due to all the fraudulent injury treatments being ordered by doctors....
Auto accidents are often staged to create victims and patients for treatment... simply because the insurance pays for it.

You're right in that it will heal without major intervention. However, a larger number of people I treat for neck pain can trace the beginning of their problems to auto accidents and show significant degernative changes that could have been prevented had they been able to heal in normal alignment rather than abnormal alignment.

One way to think of it is the front end alignment on your car. You can still drive it but the tires will wear out much faster if the alignment is off. Fortunately, you can replace tires. You can't replace vertebrae.

I also agree that way too much money is spent on these cases and the problem is prolonged by mismanagement. However, thinking you've healed up only to later find out you have a, now, chronic problem does nothing to help overall health care costs.

What is out of place when a person sprains an ankle? I've never had anyone manipulate my ankle when I sprained it. I know it does pop and feel like it reseats itself when the blood is gone.

The thing about putting tobacco on her shoulder, it will take the inflammation out, deaden the area and make it a whole lot less painful for someone to put her bones back in place, I do believe in chiropractors, have for 40 years, I saw what one did for one of my brothers, one day he had to crawl into his house, 4 days later he was back at work.

The ankle is just an analogy and doesn't tend to stay misaligned like the neck. Mostly because of the greater number of joints in the neck and greater range of motion.
