husbands diagnosed acid reflux and gerd(Need an expert)

Posted by concerned wife on April 13, 2002 at 23:39:38:

My husband was diagnosed with these conditions and he was put on aciflex for the reflux(the doc said it was so bad he could see the acid coming up from stomach to throat.)But despite several doc visits back cause meds were not working and he devoloped a hard to digest food problem while on the meds(food just sits there and feel pressure)He decided to stop the meds cause it did nothing for him. The digesting food has improved some after stopping the meds but the pressure in gut is still there. I suggested lemon water cause I heard that is suppose to balance ph-he says it helps the pressure in his gut. How do we know this is to much acid or not enough acid. And if it was to much I think the lemon juice would make things worse but not sure. But it helps. If it is not enough acid how could it be shown on the upper gi all that acid traveling up. He sucks on tums occasionally now also. What can we do and where do we start?
I am having the stomach problems too-food just sits there bloat and I thought I would try the lemon juice it just made things burn intestinal and bloating got worse. What does one make of this? The pressure and bloating on me is not high up where your stomach is suppose to be its low where there that crease is when yo bend over just above the belly button. Can your stomach drop? I also get a burning in throat-I have tried the muscle testing on me cause my doc wanted me to take prilosec this caused stomach pains. And is showed I don;t test for it or dgl either.what could this be? I also sweat and pass alot of gas with these episodes. Help please

Hi concerned wife,
You can check the glossary and archives here on the BB
for GERD. That will give you some information to begin
with. First you need to look at your diets. Our diet has
alot to do with our digestion. There is a chinese remedy
that is so simple that is recommended on this board to
people with reflux for GERD. It will sound so simple,
but I have read many posts of it helping. That simple
thing is ginger juice. You juice it fresh in a juicer,
take 1/2 tsp to 1 tsp a day. It will last up to 3 months
in the frig. I have read amazing results. You can also
take digestive enzymes to help aide in your digestion.
Look up in the glossary under the 3-legged stool for wellness. You will want to get to the source of your
digestive problems, get to the root, and you will take care
of the symptom.
Walt Stoll takes 24 hours or less to answer posts.
If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.
Hope this helps

Hi, concerned.

Start with the GRJ (ginger root juice) in the GERD archives or the hiatus hernia archives.

THEN, while that is working, start learning about LGS and SR.

See the glossary for any unfamiliar terms and let us know what you both learn and how you both do.

Walt

What about the lemon juice and the effects it has on us?
I will have to invest in a juicer-any recomendations? Especially to juice ginger root since it is so hard.

Thank you for your fast reply! I still don;t understand the acid showing it coming up his throat and possibly to much stomach acid or not enough. Can you answer this one.

If you don't want to or can't afford a juicer, just to make ginger juice, could you just cut off a piece and kind of chew and suck on it instead?

Walt can you chew ginger and get the same effect? nmi

Hi,
I have a Waring Juice Extractor. Do you have any friends that you might be able to borrow a juicer from. You can make 1/2 cup to a cup of juice and store in frig for a long time. You can purchase small juicers for the task, hate to see you spend the money if you don't know if your husband will even take the juice.

You can also use a garlic press - cut the ginger into garlic-sized pieces and squeeze! nmi

Great idea! Now why didn't I think of that?! Need big muscles. I think I actually used to do that when I cooked exotic stuff before I got sick. Thanks a lot!

Hi go to marineminerals.com They will have a wide assortment of products that may be helpful. I use the liquid trace minerals everyday. They are the most important! They also have a gastro product with a trace mineral base. Check them out and let me know how they do for you. DP

Concerned,

The only thing that keeps all of us from spewing highly acidic stomach contents all the time is the gastroesophageal valve. LGS is the most common cause of this valve being functionally incompetent and there are all levels of that incompetency.
