Dear Dr. Stoll and others,
My name is Allie and I found this wonderful site yesterday while searching for information on hiatal hernia. (please see my related post prior) Anyway, I was reading some of the articles and came upon the one recommending distilled vinegar for toenail fungus. Well, this summer a friend suggested I try soaking my foot in a small tub of vinegar with the addition of 2 tsp. boric acid powder stirred in for 10 minutes each evening. Dr. Stoll, I had tried EVERYTHING for this hideous problem----- my foot had itched, oozed, bled (gross, sorry!) for years and no creams or sprays the doctor gave me worked AT ALL. The one physician I went to recommended I see a podiatrist and go on a drug that would require me to have my liver enzymes tested periodically. NO THANKS!!!!! My intuition told me never to go that route. However, within a couple of weeks of my 'vinegar/boric acid' soak ritual, PERFECT FEET.
People, if you suffer from foor or nail fungus, TRY THIS METHOD. It is great not to be itching my feet every five minutes!
p.s. Dr. Stoll, I'll bet the vinegar alone would probably work, but I have researched boric acid powder and it is a strong anti-fungal.
Allie

Dear Grace,
This is not a prescription product, but you do have to ask the pharmascist to get this behind the counter. It is very cheap---- under $5.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

If you are talking about Boric Acid? You can find it where drug stores sell old time ingredients and cures, like Castor oil, or you can buy it as a roach killer in a Dollar store, that is just Sodium Borate, Or use old 20 Mule Team Borax, which is sodium borate. Very similar but not treated with acid.

The problem you have in making this statement is, how much do you put in-what is the mixture ratio? Do you make a new mixture each application? How often do you do it.

I didn't post the note, so better ask them. I use borax and boric acid, and I only put in enough in water to make it feel slippery, and that always worked. It softens water and I've only used it in water, and it works for what I use it for. Usually for irritated skin. Just disolving it in my hands will take away the burn of irritated palms, from the friction when turing a screwdriver real hard.

I made the original post, and this is what I personally did:
Take pail or small tub and fill w/ enough vinegar to soak feet well. Ratios don't have to be exact.
Then, dissolve 2 tsp. boric acid powder in 8 oz. warm water (stir w/ spoon to dissolve) and pour into vinegar mixture. (the reason you add this step is that BA will not dissolve in cool solution).
Soak afflicted foot for 10. min. per day.
Hope this post answers your questions.
