I have constant burning and pain in my ear. The doctor checked it and found no bacteria or infection. I have had 2 clear filled cysts form on the outside of my ear. I think they are called tophi, when you have gout. I have no toe or foot problems. When I tilt my ear, a burning clear fluid somtimes comes out. I tried to get my doc to check for yeast, but he assures me that it is not that. Can it be uric acid, a by product of yeast, and what should I do to help solve this pain?
Thanks
Donna

Hi, Donna.
First, you need a definitive diagnosis and that is done by your physician ordering a 24 hour urine for uric acid. A blood test will rarely make the diagnosis of goute OR rule it out.
Let us know what you learn.
There IS a very physiologic "cure" for goute if you have it.

Thank you Dr. stoll. I will talk to my physician and see if he will order the urine test. Is it possible to have gout or uric acid in your ear?

Yes, Donna.
One of the common places for tophi.
If your urine test is positive for goute, the proper treatment is one 300 milligram tablet of allopurinol once a day.

Thank you so much. You are very kind. I will let you know what my physician finds out.
