Gout

Posted by
Donna on July 24, 2002 at 12:17:00:

I think some of my gout is caused by candida. Will eating potatoes (white ) and rice(brown) cause my uric acid to stay up? Also, what are some of the physiological things I can do to help my gout? I am on allupurinol now. Have you ever heard of taking coral calcium for gout? I have been taking that for 3 days, I do the litmus paper test, and my acid state has come down from 6.0 to 7.0. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated on the matter of the coral calcium.
Thanks
Donna

Coral Calcium is "Calcium and Magnesium Carbonate" as quoted by the MANY sites found on the internet. Many of the sites mention how bad calcium carbonate is for you, then list the ingredients of coral calcium as being calcium carbonate.

Previous post on this BB which may help:

Research the effects of the wrong kind of calcium and parathyroid problems.

High blood calcium affects the normal calcium sensor to suppress parathyroid hormone secretion. Proper calcium self regulates and any excess will be secreted.

Calcium carbonate (found in many health food stores and famous antacids) is a good example of bad calcium. Same for bone meal.

Hope this helps!

Does calcium carbonate ever come in a natural form that we would injest without grinding things up like shells and coral?

What's the rest of your typical diet like? Do you eat commercial breads and white flour products?

I try to stay away from bread. I have been eating a lot of celery, cherries, and cherry juice. I have cut back on my meat, because of the purines in it.

Hi, Donna K.

How was your goute diagnosed? IF the diagnosis is correct, your allopurinol is the cure so long as you take it. It can take years for the stored uric acid to finally work itself out of your system. This can be hastened by the use of Benemid and colchicine for a year or so.

I am taking primal defense and alpha lipoic acid. I break out in shingles off and on. Even after taking these supplements I broke out in shingles again. Is this the result of detoxification?
Thanks
Donna
P.S. I am also using a recipe with cilantro, lemon juice and garlic in it

My physician just called me with the results of my blood work. The uric acid levels were normal. I am almost 99.9% sure I have gout or high uric acid levels. The pain in my ear and jaw are horrible. Two small clear fluid cyst showed up on the outside of my ear, and then disappeared the next day. I am sure they were tophi. HOw can my uric acid level test come back normal, when I am so sure I have high uric acid levels. How do I convince my physician to do a 24 hour urine test? I have also done the saliva test for ph, and it shows highly acidic. It is around the 6.0 range. I do this first thing in the morning before I eat breakfast or brush my teeth.
Thanks
Donna

Hi, Donna.

Only in a monopoly could a physician know less that his patient and still get rich "treating" her.

Your "doc" knows that a 24 hour urine is the only reliable way to surely diagnose this condition (goute).

If your doc gives you any trouble ordering this, you need a better doc. He was taught this in medical school! Your blood results may be proof of why a blood test should not be used for this diagnosis.

Remember, bracing and the subsequent TMJ is a much more likely cause of your symptoms (except for the "tophi").

Let us know what you learn.

Walt
