Graves, ATDs and Liver

Posted by Dennis on October 19, 2001 at 17:04:51:

Hi Dr. Stoll,

Thanks for this great site. I have graves and I do not want RAI as an option. 4 doctors have already dropped me as their patient (2 endos, 1 internist and 1 holistic doctor). They all want RAI for me because the ATDs are causing my liver levels to go high. Here are my nos:

Recent thyroid results:
TSH 0.019 normal is 0.35
Free T4 2.48 normal is 1.8
Free T3 5.7 normal is 4.0

Liver levels when I use Tapazole:
Alkaline Phosphatase 270 normal is 117
AST/SGOT 46 normal is 37
ALT/SGPT 73 normal is 40

Liver levels when I am not using Tapazole:
Alkaline Phosphatase 285 normal is 117
AST/SGOT 71 normal is 37
ALT/SGPT 134 normal is 40

I am getting desperate already. I have no doctors anymore where I could get blood tests and prescriptions. If no one will take me then I might go for RAI.

I am taking supplements now. I have done hair analysis. I have been doing Yoga.

What is your advice? Will I just wait for the supplements, diet and SR to kick in or do I continue with the Tapazole of a smaller dosage?

I know you said that these are not true liver tests. No doctor still cannot tell why my liver levels are high even before starting the Tapazole. Do I need to worry with these levels eventhough they are too high?

By the way, I have no symptoms yet (only palpitation but not that much). I am just afraid, the symptoms will go out in the near future.

Thanks!
