The FDA Raids The Life Extension Foundation

Someone asked about the LEF. They may not be the "best" supplement company but they are certainly
out there fighting for your rights. While this article is old, the harrassment of the LEF & other supplement companies continues.

Use your rights or lose your rights. Your decision.

The FDA Raids The Life Extension Foundation

On the morning of Feb. 26, 1987, the FDA -- in conjunction with the Justice Department, the FBI, the DEA, and other federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies -- staged a surprise raid on The Life Extension Foundation. With guns held high, federal marshals terrorized foundation employees and began a systematic search-and-seizure action that lasted until 10 pm that night.

The FDA agents seized large quantities of nutrient products, most of them sold routinely in health-food stores throughout the country. They also seized computers and newsletters protected by the first amendment to the U.S. constitution, the financial and tax records of The Foundation, and the personal property of foundation employees, in violation of their civil rights.

Under perjured testimony by FDA compliance officer Martin Katz, the FDA agents obtained search warrants in federal court. The warrants gave the FDA "permission" to seize nutrient products they had no business seizing. But the FDA wasn't content just to seize the products on the warrants, their agents proceeded to seize numerous products not on the warrants. At least 75% of the products seized by the FDA during their raid of The Foundation were seized without authorization by the court! In testimony under oath, FDA employees stated that it is "FDA policy" for agents to take any products they wish to, regardless of whether they are on the search warrant or not! One item seized by the FDA was 5,000 copies of a single issue of Life Extension Report, featuring information about hundreds of thousands of dollars The Foundation had donated to research scientists!

The FDA's objective in their illegal raid of The Foundation was to put The Foundation out of business. When that failed, they went after Saul Kent and William Faloon, The Foundation's leaders, through a criminal Grand Jury "investigation" of their alleged activities. When the first Grand Jury failed to indict Kent and Faloon, another one was convened. Finally, in November 1991, the second Grand Jury, indicted Kent and Faloon on 28 counts of alleged "fraud" and "conspiracy" with a maximum jail time -- if convicted -- of 84 years!

This latest attempt to put The Foundation out of business and to shut Kent and Faloon up for good has failed completely. While fighting the FDA's unjust and illegal indictment of them in federal court, Kent and Faloon have continued to inform foundation members about the latest healthcare and medical advances, as well as how to obtain the best available life extension therapies in the world. They have also accelerated their devastating political attacks on the FDA in their publications, on radio and TV, in newspaper ads, and through the creation of the unique FDA Museum. The Life Extension Foundation is now larger and stronger than ever before and will continue to expand its efforts to bring true and lasting freedom in healthcare to the American people!

Lightwalking,
Gregory
