Chlamydia

Posted by
Ginny on October 26, 2002 at 14:32:26:

I had a searing pain in my left abdomen. (pelvic area)and the next day I went to the doctor. The doctor examined me and asked me if this was tender to the touch (and although it was not severe like the night before)- I said yes. The doctor then told me (with my husband present) that he thought it was Chlamydia. He said I was probably exposed to it within 4 weeks ago. This is unlikely because I haven't had sex for 2 years and 3 months. The tests won't come back until Monday; however, my question is if I had unprotec. sex two years and 3 months ago, would i just now be feeling the searing pain in my stomach? Can I have chlamydia from 2 years back and just now feeling the pain? I think the doctor was wrong to assume that was the problem when all he did was do an exam and ask me if it was tender. What do you think?

I think you need to see another doctor. There are tests that can confirm or rule out chlamydia. That's the only real way to tell. It hardly seems likely that you would first start having sypmtoms now after all that time has elapsed.

Thank you. That makes me feel better. I mean that is ridiculous. It is such a long time and I just got married two months ago. It just blew me away for the doctor to say such a thing. Plus, I think that was very unprofessional for him to say "Hey, we are going to check you for chlamydia!" totally unprofessional for that to be his first instinct. I have read that Chlamydia (that goes undetected) can develop into PID but even still that is way off base because the doctor also said that this had to occur in the last three weeks. I don't understand how a doctor can just blurt something out like that when there could be so many causes. Thanks Again-Ginny

Hi, Ginny.

Listen to Naya.

My first (tongue in cheek) response was: "Wow! What an intuitive clinician!" :>) If this turns out to be true, he should write a book and try to share his amazing abilities with the world.

Let us know what the test shows.

In the meantime, the rest of us only have "feet of clay" and would need a lot more information to begin to know where to look.

You're quite welcome. Frankly, I was thinking that this doc must be a real jerk, or as Walt says, an intuitive genius, to diagnose chlamydia without a test and based only on those symptoms you were having. I hope you find a better doc and the correct diagnosis and treatment. Good luck!

Naya.

Thanks Dr. Walt, you made me laugh and this entire weekend laughing was not one of the things that I had been doing. ;). I should also mention that for years I have always had cramps during my ovulation and also during my menstrual cycle (although not much anymore during the mentral cycle until i got on the pill recently). And the first day of my last cycle was on the 11th of October (I am very regular) and my slight cramping started on the 22nd and then I had the searing pain on the night of the 24th after I ate some ramen noodles. I'm no doctor, but I would have taken my ovulation history in to account. I was just humilated beyond belief. Today is the day that I find out--I will let you know if he should write a book or be hung up like a tapestry. Thanks Dr. Walt (and Naya too!!) Ginny

Well, he definitely won't be up for any pulitizer prize in break through medicine---He is a bonifide moron it turns out. He called me and said "I have good news all the test is negative, I guess you are that 1% (what does that mean exactly?-)." I said it could be endometriosis or an assortment of other things and His response? "Well not what I saw- maybe it was a yeast infection that got out of hand" Yeahhhh righhhhttttt. Lets see.. Lets play musical diagnosis. I'll just pick one out of the clear blue sky and run a test.
I apologize for sounding so sarcastic, but I was so worried this weekend that I couldn't think straight.

Why would he even say that he thinks it's Chlamydia- instead of saying we are going to run some tests to rule somethings out." To do say something like that in front of my husband and to give us the feeling as if someone had been unfaithful was just inconsiderate and unprofessional. I will take Naya's advice and find a doctor who will at least ASK QUESTIONS first- BTW this doc asked me nothing. He just looked. Thanks for responding to the thread Dr. Stoll and Naya.
Your friend,
Ginny

Thanks, Ginny.

I was SO hoping to be present when another medical genius was revealed :o)!

In MY opinion, what he means by the 1% is that he was 99% sure and only 1% were proven not to be his pronouncement off the top of his head. Silly!

Get a good holistic physician and let us know what you have. See the holistic practitioner archives for how to find one close to you.

Namaste`

Walt
