hi walt,

sorry if i should have kept from starting a new thread.
you said you became a student of antioxidents and essential oils. what did you study? any particular books? or is it a "go to the library and do a search" type of thing...

when you say essential oils, are you talking about patchouli, rose and aroma therapy type stuff? thanks.

30 years ago, when I first began to study these things, essential oils were all lumped into the same catagory as EFAs (essential fatty acids) since conventional medicine did not recognize the existance in legitimate medicine of the topical Aroma Therapy (essential oils).

SO, as a conventional allpath, that is how I introduced the subject into this website. A few years later, someone corrected me and I have been living it down ever since.

Now that we allopaths have been dragged, kicking and screaming, into the 21st century, we (allopaths) still barely recognize the legitimacy of Aroma Therapy and, as such the essential oils are given short shrift.

When I speak of EFAs I am referring to the internally important fatty acids (reference: Udo Erasmus) and when I mention "essential oils" I am referring to the oils used in Aroma Therapy.

I am the essential "cutting edge" journal article geek and always have been. Reference my 50+ years subscription to the wonderful weekly journal: Science News, My first inkling that my medical school training had systematically avoided anything new came from there, As a matter of fact, when I began speaking, publicly, about free radicals, I was officially reprimanded by my medical society for practicing "voodoo medicine". That same week there was a front page article about this new aspect of medicine (free radical pathology) in the New York Times).

My original study, in depth, about EFAs was Udo Erasmus classic: "Fats that Heal, Fats that Kill". The Aroma Therapy I had to get through the many post graduate educations I got from attending Holistic Medicine meetings. I was a founding member of the American Holistic Medical Association where I picked up much of what I ended up practicing for the last 15 years of my practice.

Hope this helps. There is a LOT of this information now available in the self help section of regular bookstores and especially the book sections of most of the larger health food stores.

The AMA is being "left in the dust of history" which is where it deserves to be!
