Have had dogs all my life-have read lately that humans can get parasites from a dog-does anyone which ones and how to get rid of them? Or does an MD test for this. I don;t have many medical profession options in my area. Thanks!

Hi. I'm a vet tech. You can get round worms, fecal/mouth, tapeworms and other rare forms of worms. The best way to rid your dog of them is Drontal - gets rid of both tapes and round worms. They get tapes from fleas and eating yucky creatures or carcasses, and rounds they get from the above minus the fleas. I've always been around animals even as a child and never have known anyone to get these. I am very cautious myself with my child in making sure that I worm every 3-6 months and are flea free. Hope this helps

Do you know how to rid them in people and how to find out if you have them? My dog gets wormed.

Read archives on parasites in humans. Round worms from dogs are rare from what I have studied and will usually migrate to the eyes and cause blindness. It usually occurs in children because they don't wash their hands as much as adults. Remember you have to have the part of the dogs fecal go into your mouth to get this. If your dogs are wormed regularly, I wouldn't worry about it unless you are having symptoms of parasites yourself. You would probably be more apt to get parasites from the ground than your dog.

first of all are you talking about internal or external parasites? internal parasites should be dealt with like for kids, with regular de-worming. If it is ticks youa re talking about then the most natural way to remain tick free is to just sponge bathe your dogs daily in a solution neem leaves soaked in water. This is what I do for my dogs and it works wonderfully.
