CDSA and parasitology? - For Helping you.

Posted by Serge C. on April 13, 2003 at 09:23:29:

I am wondering on a few things about Great Smokies Lab tests and I know that you know these tests very well. The explanations on their web site are not really clear and detailed enough.

The CDSA is supposed to include parasitology profile, but there is an other test called: Comprehensive Parasitology Profile. There is also the possibility of combining these two tests together, then I understand that the CPP is not included in the CDSA.

What parasites does the Comprehensive Parasitology Profile verify that is not already verified in the CDSA?

Some people told me that the CDSA will tell me what anti-fungal would be the most effective to eradicate candida, but I didn't read it on the GSL web site. Is it true or pure invention?

Is there an other less expensive test that could give me a good idea of candida status and possible bacteria like klebsiella?

Thanks

Serge

The Great Smokies web page references "a proprietary Optimized Parasite Recovery technology" that is provided with the CDSA. This is something new. I had the parasitology profile that was funded separately from the CDSA. The Great Smokies Lab is very attuned to customer service, and I would encourage you to call or email the lab with your question. Please let us know what you find out.

One thing to remember with the parasitology testing, is that it can often take 7-10 or more tests to detect parasites. Many false negatives. It takes a lot to get the parasites off the intestinal wall into the feces.

Alternatives to CDSA are the organic acid tests offered by Great Plains Lab, Metametrix and others. Great Plains Lab now offers a stool CDSA, similarly to Great Smokies Lab.

The CDSA checks for a specific set of pathogens as does the Parasitology. So, if you get them both, you cover a full range of organisms. They are changing their parameters all the time so you will need to ask them what organisms they are currently testing for.

The CDSA will only include a "sensitivity report" showing what antifungals will kill the yeast if this report was requested with the CDSA. They don't do this test automatically.

As far as less expensive tests go, I don't think so. Many of them are antibody tests that aren't that accurate to begin with.
