Shave your head? My grandmother is a teacher and told me a funny story...I do not know if it is true or not, but she referred to them as "Turbo Lice". She said that in her school system they have found that the lice shampoo no longer works on the lice. The school allows kids to come back to school because they cannot get rid of them. She says what they tell the parents to do in shave :( I hope it was just a funny story. Good luck.

I don't know the most effective cure but I do know how to prevent them naturally. Lavender.....Get Lavender Absolute (not Lavender Spike) from the Health Food Store. Put 10 drops in a small misting spray bottle full of water. Shake well each time you use it. Lightly mist your hair(lightly now, don't drench). This will repel lice. Lavender is also a great insect repellant for mosquitos & flies. I burn Lavender incense on my patio when I cook out. Of course, you have to buy "true" lavender incense so make sure that the incense you buy is from India or the orient. All this American stuff is synthetic and just plain garbage. Carol

Emma,
When this happened to my son, I went to the drugstore and spent a long time reading the labels on the different products.
The fine toothed metal combs work well. (The plastic ones were useless.)
There is a product that "loosens" the egg's grip on the hair shaft, so that it can be shampooed away. I used this first, before I used the shampoo with the insecticide, and got everything out in one session.
I have read several cases where the person in the family who used a blow dryer to dry their hair did not get lice when the rest of the family did. Apparently the heat killed the lice?
Good luck.
Carol B.

I read that oregano oil applied on hair helps and simple mayonnaise- I cann't find for how long should it be kept on hair. I think it cuts oxygen supply for lice.

Lots and lots of combing with the fine tooth comb, every night until you can no longer find the eggs. Wash all linens and Good Luck. I had 2 episodes with it when my kids were playing baseball and softball. But here is a funny story:
I was working in a pharmacy many yrs ago when a elderly man came in to pay his bill. The man questioned what Kwell shampoo was and why it was on his bill. The pharmacist said it was for your grandchildren and it is for head lice. The customer said "HEAD LIGHTS! I DON'T EVEN OWN A CAR!"

Go to the healthfood store and get a bottle of Neem Oil. Then buy a cheap bottle of shampoo and conditioner (suave works great), and a shower cap. Mix one tablespoon with enough shampoo to wash your hair well. Wash your hair. Then take one tablespoon Neem Oil and mix with one ounce of conditioner. Towel dry your hair and add conditioner mix. Keep adding the one tablespoon Neem Oil/one ounce conditioner mixture, until your hair and scalp are saturated. Put on the shower cap and go to sleep. The next morning you will have no lice, no eggs and very nice hair. Neem Oil can been digested by humans without harm, as a matter of fact it is used in Aruvedic medicine, so don't worry, use Neem!
