pinworms

I have some questions about pinworms. The first pinworm
outbreak took place in my household about 17 years ago.
Following guidelines, pediatrician recommendations etc., all
members of the family were treated (imagine all the hand, sheet,
vacuming that went along with this). Repeat this at least 10 times
over the years and you get the picture. What is going on here?
Have pinworms developed resistance to Vermox like bacteria to
antibiotics. We all are very healthy otherwise. What can be done
to clear this, finally. Any recommended reading on the subject or
treatment suggestions would be appreciated.

Pinworms need our fingernails to reproduce, we scratch that itch and then the eggs that were laid around the opening of the anus are under our nails, eventually ending up in our mouths again. And on goes the cycle. A friend of mine whose child was on her 5th battle with and was really unwilling to go the antibiotics route again (as they were obviously not working) simply put gloves on her kid at night and washed them in HOT water every day. It worked!

I would say breaking the habit of scratching the itch is paramount to winning that battle. Theses bugs require us to move the eggs from one end to another, stop that cycle and you should see an end to it. I hope this helps. Good luck!

had pinworms in our family 2 times in 20 years... NEVER used the perscribed pesticide(it is NOT and antibiotic)

clip and clean the nails. Keep the hands clean. Under right conditions. eggs that have worked down into the mattress can remain viable for a long period of time... get an allergen cover for the mattress and pillows

wash the stuffed animals bedding coats mittens underwear blankets especially wash cloths and towels in HOTTTT water and dry thouroughly. discard any fluffy toys that cannot be washed or heated in dryer.

Do this regularly and you will never need the poison to rid them of this pest again.

pumpkin SEEDS RAW added into salads, rice and other side dishes can help in keeeping this pest at bay.. I swear by it.

do a parent visit to the daycare or classroom to try and see where they are being reinfected(uaually with the community toys and toilets in the classroom/nursery school or even the neighborhood playmates.

Stephanie,

90% of all humans have pinworms. Children tend to have symptoms because their systems have not yet accomodated to tis benign parasite whereas adults serve as the asymptomatic reservoir that makes sure that their kids get infected. In my opinion, any physician that puts their patients through what you have been put through, has not studied this situation very well. The standard treatment is to only treat children who still have symptoms until they no longer have symptoms. It is IMPOSSIBLE to eliminate them from any family.

The best defense against ALL parasites it to maintain a healthy colonic ecology which is unfriendly to all parasites.

Hope this helps.

Walt
