I was diagnosed with candida and went on an extensive
diet and was put on antifungals (nystatin and mycostatin).
The DOC insisted it was YS even though my stool samples
by supposedly the best lab out there (GSDL)showed none and
a blood serum for candida was neg. What gives with these
tests???? They were very expensive....is this another making
scheme to capitolize on desperate ill people?
By the way none of the therapies worked and my condition is
worse.
Where's the proof on the candida syndrome?

Dear BHH,
Even the best lab, GSDL, only finds one in five of test organisms placed in a specimen. That is ten times as accurate than the local labs (according to the CDC in Atlanta which says that local labs only find one in fifty).
That means that for parasites, one must do about five purged stool specimens to have a good chance of finding what is there.
Finally, you are describing a good example why the most important message C-RS is is the fact that the person has to have LGS for that to happen. Doing something about the LGS is the most important thing in the long run.
Look at the homepage for this 'site and the archives for this BB to learn about LGS & its causes.
THEN, if you still have questions, write again.

Candida, parasites and LGS

Walt,
I have a question since we're talking about parasites. I had stool specimens sent to GSDL in December, and they said I have candida and klebsiella oxytoca. I am currently on the elimination diet and will resume treatment of both when I get on the proper metabolic diet (with restrictions for the candida).
My treatment will consist of (of course) continuing SR; grapefruit seed extract and caprylic acid for the candida (and lots of acidophilous with FOS); and the klebsiella will be treated with uva ursi and some special oregano oil tablets that I have to order through my doctor. If it takes about 5 purged stool specimens for them to have a good chance of finding what is there (parasite-wise), then there a good chance that I could have other critters living inside of me that haven't been found yet.
Is it necessary for me to have more testing done, or would the treatment be the same as what I'm already doing? In other words, once I get rid of the LGS, would any parasites that I might possibly have even be able to survive?
I apologize if this question has already been answered - still suffering slight spaciness from the elimination diet (but I'm half-way through)!
Thanks,
Sara

Hi, Sara.
NO, I would just do what you are doing. THEN, once you have your LGS under control---if you STILL have ANY symptoms, I would recheck a few more purged stool specimens.
Congratulations for finally being on the right track.
I hope you will continue to share your journey with the rest of the BB participants.
