Dr. Stoll's opinion on a VBAC

Posted by dstone on March 10, 2002 at 10:40:16:

Dr. Stoll, I am in my 27th week of pregnancy with my third child. I had a wonderful normal delivery with my first child and anticipated the same with my second only to find after 10 hours of labor he was turned face up and 9 pounds. The doctor tried to turn him and it resulted in a C-section. It was very disappointing. Now I am facing the question of a VBAC or a repeat C-section. We recently moved and the doctor in Houston said NO to a VBAC and the doctor in Dallas said it was my choice. She said that I could try a VBAC. What is your opinion? I am 29 yrs. old and the C-section was a lower bikini incision.

I had a c-section with my second child and had a VBAC with my third. My first doctor told me I could not do it so I want to another Doctor. When I told the second doctor what the first said he could not understandf why the first one said what he did. I only had the c-section because he was breech and my water broke when I went into labor and in 30 minutes I was almost fully dialated and the babies feet was already in the birth canal. I did fine.

Thanks for the encouragement! Did you do anything special to prepare yourself for the VBAC?

No,I just did a lot of walking. Which I did that with my first baby It helps to make some of the muscles you use to deliver the baby stronger.

Hi, dstone.

With that kind of incision, there is no more risk with a VBAC than with a first vaginal delivery and NO previous surgery.

ANY physician who is not comfortable with that reality should hot be doing deliveries and certainly would not do mine!

The physician is supposed to help, not bring his own limitations to the situation!

Let us know how you do.

Walt
