Pilonidal Cyst Recovery

Posted by Anonymous Hawaii on February 14, 2000 at 03:49:53:

Well,
It has been a month since I had my laser surgery to remove the pilonidal cyst. (search anonymous hawaii for description of how it went) I am still draining. I am still wearing a maxi-pad on my butt. It still hurts but it is slowly healing. I am taking no pain medication--the site of the wound is just sore but the actual wound itself is not painful anymore. It was really hurting about a week and a half to two weeks after--lots of drainage (no blood).

I hate this freakin thing. But, alas it is there and I am accepting it. I guess being a man wearing a maxi-pad everyday makes you accept things a little more. (weak humor attempt alert) I am living alone so I can walk around naked abit to keep the wound as dry as possible when I can (usually at night). I bought some natural soap product with various oils (including tea tree oil) and put some of that in my nightly soaks. i did some epson salts too. Two times a week a put a little Neosporin around the area.

A word of advice. If you are a guy and you have the operation-- go get some maxi-pads or pantishields and just go freakin buy them if you can't get someone to do it for you, and then put them on your underwear. I didn't do that my first week and the drainage started a rash on my butt. My doctor reccomended it in the first place but I was two damn scared to go buy them...what a loser...but then neccesity took over and then buying those puppies became a mission. Just go do it and you will be much more comfortable. Trust me on this.

I will post a final follow-up when the thing is closed and the pain completely subsides. Thanks
