My mother developed a bony feeling lump on her hand, on the palm side, just below her index finger. She said it is sore from time to time, but she has not had it looked at. Could this be the start of an arthritic condition?

Hi, Smiler.
This is likely the beginnings of a "Duputryn's Contracture" which is an inflammatory condition of the flexor tendons of the hand. While it is like this, before the deformity occurs, is the best time to seek an orthopedists help. Look it up in your medical book.
If the orthopedist has no suggestions, come back with that you have learned and we may have some suggestions.
