Hello Walt,
Your board has been super helpful. I have TV and it's
my first week of treating it tomorrow. I first started on
Nizoral shampoo and then at the suggestion of a friend
switched to Selsun Blue. The first day I started I used
a bath brush on my back and then buffed with a towel. I
think I was a little buff happy because about two days
later I noticed abrasions. It didn't hurt while I was
buffing so I didn't realize I was doing it too hard.
Since I started with the Selsun, the areas that were
buffed heavily have become very very dry. Not Gucci
bag dry but a couple of notches down from there. I've
read that the skin is supposed to shed off and I'm
wondering if it's supposed to become this dry to shed
off? The other parts were my skin is normal and soft is
flaking off in the normal way I'd expect.
I've read people can have allergies to Selsun Blue and
wonder if what I've described could be a symptom? I
am moisturizing the very dry areas heavily and it is
helping. Also I have a couple of spots on my chest and
smear the Selsun in that area too. I noticed that I get a
light itching particularly around the nipple area. It will
last for a little bit and go away. Is what I've described an
allergic reaction? If so should I stop Selsun and use
something else? And if that's the case..what? I still
have the Nizoral shampoo.

Hi, Greg.
It does not help to try to remove all the dead skin at one sitting--as you have just learned. It has to be done with EACH bath over months.
Your abrasions make you much more susceptible to the hypersensitivity responses. I would use only the nizoral until your skin takes care of your exuberance and again gives you the option.
