Tinea Versicolor, questions i didn't see...

I have read most of the posts on this subject and i have a few more questions.

I have had this fungal disease for about a year and have tried Diflucan and a few other creams with no luck. After reading the posts i decided to start the selsun blue regiment. My questions are, 1) Would showering in the morning, buffing after and then putting selsun on over night be enough of a treatment or would i have to shower before bed and buff then as well???

Second question, I have notices that my "spots" have spread. How do they spread? By contact with, for instance, a used towel? Or my sheets (which i don't wash everyday like some other people i read about).Or does it just go where it pleases. Because It seems that mine had jumped to the places where i shave on my body. Could it be being spread through my razor?

Last Question. After buffing my skin is very dry, should i use lotion? I was thinking so, but then i read that the disease likes oil....so should i just bear the dry skin or lotion away?

I would very much appreciate it if you answered my questions because I want to know if this plan will work for me and whether it's pointless if i'm just spreading it through my razor or gaining it through lotion once i get rid of it.

Thank you very much.

Hi, Katy.

Be sure to read the first paragraph in the TV archives since my recommendations have changed (even though the selsun will still work--it is just messier and some people have a hypersensitivity response to it).

IF this is TV, it is caused by a living thing: a fungus. It spreads like crab grass would if you had a patch of it in your yard.

Shaving causes micro cuts in one's skin mo matter how careful they may be. ALL topical infestations love a slightly damaged skin. Your razor is not spreading it. Your repeatedly damaging the skin IS.

Showering once a day is fine but you need to remember that a good hot shower opens pores and anything topical will work better right after a shower.

You also need to remember that "buffing" does not do much to cure a case of TV but is your best protection against it's recurrance.

Lotion tends to protect the skin from any topical medication. SO, if you make sure you have put on your treatment a few hours before applying the lotion, I think it would be OK.

Let us know how you do.

Walt
