I need help with my skin!

Okay so here's the deal, I have bad skin, I break out ALL the time, and I have been on a 10% benzoyl peroxide wash, which just dried out my skin, and Retin A which made my skin peeley, I have also been on Monodoxyl and Monocycline, both of which are pills. I am currently taking Monocycline 50 grams, and it has cleared up the cysts on my face, but not the acne, I still get tons of pimples, and it seems to have been gettin worse over the past few months. Currently I was h my face twice a day with Clean & Clear 10% benzoyl peroxide wash (non-perscription) and I take Monocycline 2x a day, my face is awful! Please Help, I want to ask my mom to take me to a doctor, but my parents don't really see this as a serious problem, they say it will make me stronger, but I do see this as a problem, it's painful and unsightly and red. I would give anything to wake up and have clear skin, dry or not, as long as it's clear I don't care! Please help, if you could give me advice on what might clear up my skin, or advice on how to convince my parents that this is a serious problem I would appreciate it!

Thanks so Much,
Christy

Christy,

I don't agree this will make you stronger! But stronger medicines may be disastrous. I hope you'll browse through the archives linked below and learn about the reasons you have the skin problems, probably mostly hormonal at your age. Its been discussed on this board a lot and you may learn some new things to try if you'll do a little homework. Good luck.

our standard approach to things that go wrong is to see what we can put on them that can help. the real problem, though, is coming from within...not just on the face.

read the info ont he site about how poeple here have managed to solve these problems.

dont u hate that when parents say a problem is not bad and just assume it requires no action ?

what does your tongue look like ?

Christy,
I am 18 and I have also tried everything. My skin wasn't very bad, but still annoying. Even more annoying were my parents and the way they would think that I had bad hygiene b/c I am the only one in my family with bad skin! There is no way I have bad hygiene, so I blame this on (1) genetics (my uncle on my father's side had acne, so I got stuck with that recessive gene on my father's side, I think).

I know that acne also has to do with what I put in my body but also have so many friends that ate junk and did nothing and still end up with clear skin. Yet, there are ways to help your skin by means of nutrition adn herbal supplements as I intend to read on this site. Also, Dr. Stoll's 3-legged stool of wellness is worth reading about further.

For the past three months I have been on accutane. Though there are bad reports about accutane and it is such a potent drug, it has really cleared up my skin. As a young female, that means a lot to me. Hopefully it won't shoot me in the foot in the end!

Have you seen a dermatologist and how old are you? It is a good idea to see a doc. I recommend using cetaphil and neutrogena as they are better quality and gentler on the skin. I too have tried everything. Clean and Clear I did not like. Stay Oil-Free and Non-comodegenic.

Good luck,
Bri

If I were you, I would tell your parents that if you don't get help with your acne now, you are going to end up with scars later. I myself am an acne sufferer and am taking minocycline to help clear it up. I take 200 mg a day and it has been working wonders. I think that you may need to up your dosage of minocycline in order to see improvement. Another thing you may want to try is ProActiv. It also works well in clearing up acne.

Hi Tasha (& hi again, Christy),

Recently someone made a post about the minocycline that blew my mind. Its true that a percentage of patients will react badly to prescription meds but this warrants your attention. Link below.

Several others have written in about ProActiv. Do you use this product, Tasha?

This worked for me....

After years and years of trying different things for acne, including the SR suggestion, mostly whole foods, every imaginable topical treatment, I finally got some tea tree oil. Wow, it works on me, that's all I can say. I've read for years that it's a good natural treatment for skin problems, so I don't know why I never got it. I use the strong stuff, not tea tree oil mixed with something else, so it sort of has fumes when you put it on, but they go away quickly. I bought two little bottles for less than $10 from Swanson Health Products by mail, and they should last over a year at the rate I'm going.

I even had a red spot that had come up on my neck that I was concerned might be skin cancer. I tried colloidal silver on it and got no results. I tried the tea tree oil and it is disappearing -- hooray!!! I cancelled my dermatology appointment when they called. Can't believe I did this all on my own.

Thanks, Johnelle.

Let us know how you are doing in a year or so.
