tineas versicolor and nizoril

My 16 year old daughter was just diagnosed with TV. She has had small brown patches on the back of her neck for several years. We thought it was left over "tan" that never went away. Recently the marks have spread to the front of her neck. She also recently noticed reddish marks on her chest. The pediatrician said it is TV, and prescribed nizoril shampoo, and spectazole cream. Is it better to use these medications, or to do the Selsun Blue treatment? Thank you.

Dear kathy,

I have had TV for a couple months now. After treating it with nizoril shampoo it has completly gone away.I tryed the selsun blue only once and like many others I got really bad burned on my neck and chest from it.Plus the smell made treating it seem like punishment. Not something a young girl should have to endure .If you just leave the nizoril on for 20 min for 4 weeks it will be under control. Then you can use it once a week so it doesn't come back. You must also keep every thing that touches your skin clean.Wash sheets every night and never wear the same thing twice.
Good luck,
Pearl

P.S. Dont belive every thing you hear.

Hi, Kathy.

Either will work. I mention Selsun first because it is the cheapest. Nizoral cream (OTC) will work as well as Spectazole (for a lot less money). HOW you use anything is a lot more important than WHAT you use.

Hope this helps.

Walt
