Shooting pain behind ear - OWWWW!!!

Posted by Heidi [8338.3349] on February 13, 2009 at 12:43:41:

Around 2 days ago I started feeling like there was something irritating the left side of my throat and I kept "grinding" at it. No pain, no sore throat, just a strange sensation like something's there that's not supposed to be.

Last night I started experiencing shooting eletric shock-like pains behind my left earlobe. They come every 20 seconds or so and are beyond a level 10 on a scale of 1-10. It takes my breath away, it hurts so badly. I tried a hot, moist compress and Advil, with some relief.

This morning the same shooting pain is now in the left earlobe itself, not behind my ear. When I touch the area it recreates the pain, and when I clear my throat it recreates the pain.

Any ideas? This one has me baffled! LOL

Hi Heidi,

Here's one thing you can try. Massage the area, and/or go see a professional massage therapist. There are a lot of smaller muscles in the throat and below the ear -- maybe one of them is causing the problem.

Overly tight neck muscles can cause all kinds of ear problems and throat problems.

Best wishes,
Jan

Hi, Heidi.

Listen to Jan and Ann. If this does not relieve the symptoms see your doc or dentist about it.

Let us know what you learn.

Walt

Thank you. I've been to the chiropractor twice this week and have found much relief. It's still there, but not nearly as bad as before. :)
