Closure Treatment for Varicose Veins

I recently read about a treatment for varicose veins called Closure Treatment (or Endovenus Laser Treatment). How new is this method and does it appear to be as effective and/or safe as vein stripping, which was recommended by my physician several years ago? I opted not to have the procedure at that time, but may reconsider if this new method is less intrusive.
