I do have spider veins. I have been feeling pain in my legs that really hurts. Ant at the sight of the pain I will have a bulging vein. I massage the pain sight and elevate the leg and apply heat. It will remain sore to the touch for about 24 hrs. And then leave a nasty little bruise. This has happened to me 3 times. Once about 4 years ago now twice in the span of 5 months. Does this sound to you like varicose veins. Once I went to my doctor to have him look at it he said there was no blood clot and that it would be fine. He actually was quite surprised that I hadn't hit my leg on something. I did not injury my leg and would like to know why this is happening and if it is varicose veins. Any advise from you would be most helpful. Thank you, Linda

Hi, Linda.
You must have a pretty inexperienced doc. Is he cute :o)?
I learned about this in my teens when my mother had the exact same symptoms and hers were due to severe varicosities. Once she had her veins stripped it never happened again.
Then, when I was in practice, I used to see this about once a year---ALLWAYS due to varicosities: the weakened vein spontaneously ruptures and the stinging is the blood escaping into the surrounding tissues. NO clot necessary!!!
Let us know how you do. A good general surgeon can further explain this to you. There IS a chance that you might put the surgery off for a while by using the bioflavinoids (see the bruising archives).
