What part could hormones and/or hormone imbalances be playing in my situtation?
I've worn the below knee 20/30 compression hose for the last
2 weeks or so and again the progression sure seems worse than when I wear the pantyhose compression ones. Is this my imagination? Although I hate wearing the pantyhose, I sure don't need what's going on with my veins. Is the information you have on compression hose that ALWAYS compression pantyhose is the wrong ones to wear. Help!!!
When the tests were done on my deep veins, there was leakage
behind both knees and one area in my thigh, but over all- good circulation.(these tests were done about a year ago). I'm only 46 and wondering how bad this situation could get and if it can affect the length of my life?
If you can answer these questions, I really will appreciate it!

Hi, Worried.
You should be asking your physicians these questions since they can examine you to answer them and I cannot.
The massive study, that convinced me about the elastic support that extends across the knee and beyond, was done more than 30 years ago. I wish I has kept it but you can find it on the internet if you know how--I do not.
Veins do not get worse in such a short time. What you are seeing are the cosmetic benefits.
Hope this helps.
Walt

worried, a friend of mine had a pretty difficult time with her varicose veins. She was in her fifties and now her 30 year-old daughter although much younger has developed them. It must have a genetic element but the daughter's were so bad she had them stripped and is doing much better.

Sally, thanks for your response. Has your friend's problem with the veins not progressed? How did she handle her situation and how long has she had them?

Dr. Stoll, again thanks so much. I am trying to find the study you talked about, I'll let you know if I can find it.
Also, I'm not sure what you were referring to that I was seeing the cosmetic benefits of? Again, thanks!

She seems to manage by using the support hose. I will find out if she has done anything differently. I had suggested she try rutin (a bioflavenoid)as a supplement. But I don't think she ever did. Some on the site have suggested light bouncing on a trampoline. I know there is much in the archives about varicose veins. You could also put "Raisa" in the search as she had many helpful posts about it.

Sally, also how extensive or your friend's and her daughter's vein problem. Are they all over the legs as mine are or they limited to just some areas? Do they have varicose and spider veins? Have they had any serious complications? How long has your friend had this problem?

Hi worried, I just talked to my friend. She had many bouts with phlebitis and wore the surgical stockings. Now she wears the Leggs' Activewear hosiery for support. The veins were on the entire leg. Her 30 year old daughter had so much pain from her veins which were more superficial than her mothers that she had the outpatient surgery on them. She had some trouble for a while after the surgery but she is very satisfied now. I remember the mother started having problems about fifteen years ago and is probably 60 now.

Thanks. Does your friend still have the bouts with phlebitis
or has that improved? After menopause did things with the veins improve? Also, did she wear the below knee surgical hose? What problems did the daughter have after the surgery?

Does menopause affect varicose veins, because she is now menopausal and NOT having as many problems. Yes, she used to wear below the knee surgical hose but the Leggs' are a commercial pantyhose. I am trying to remember what the daughter had to do during her post surgery. It wasn't that serious though, have you looked into it?
