Hi,
i am 19 years old have had spider veins since im 14, im 5ft 6 and 9 and a half stone, I'm now developing varicoses. I take vit e, I exercise. I eat berries as much as I can. I started laser one year ago and have been going monthly since. I have noticed an improvement, but not so much that i can bare my legs, its also really expensive. my own doctor has not given me any advice but I researched by myself and found you need to eat fibre, cut down on salt eat bioflavanoids. (this info might help someone else)
do you know anything about horse chestnut and butchers broom, do they work? is there anything else I can do?
Should laser take this long? and is ther anything i can try to stop my varicoses developing further? Hope you can help. I will really appreciate it.

Hi, Kim.

What kind of a family history do you have?

Rules:
1. Never sit in a chair for more than 10 minutes without getting up and stretching the muscles in your legs for a few minutes.
2. Sleep with your legs propped up on a pillow (higher than your hips).
3. NEVER cross your legs!
4. Whenever you can prop your feet up higher than your butt while sitting, do so.
5. Start at least 3 times a week underwater (chest deep)aerobics for the rest of your life. All communities with indoor pools have a program.

Let us know how you do.

Walt

Thank you very much for replying so quickly Dr Walt.
My Family history, both my mum and my grandmother developed
varicose veins but during pregnancy, and they didnt get that noticeable until my mum was in her thirties, nobody on my father's side has them. the doctor says there is nothing wrong with, how come i seem to be the only person on the planet that has developed these spider veins at 14
i dont just have spider veins on my legs though i have them on my inner and outer thighs my arms and upper back between my shoulder blades and the small of my back.
they are very noticeable, i stopped going to the swimming pool ages ago, i dont think i would have the courage to go back, any way im irish, and water aerobics are not available here, only for pregnant women.
thanks again though and i will surely do everything else you have told me to do

Now that you have told me that I wonder if you are very skinny or are very fair?

I'm not particularly fair.I'm not definitely not skinny (I'm 12 Irish size)
As for not sitting down for very long I'm in college with several lectures of fifty mins each day mon - fri ( cannot really get up every ten mins, nor can i put legs up) but i circle my ankles...will that help?
Is it unusual for me to have these at such a young age?
Thanks again Doctor, for all your help.

Thanks, Kim.

This is definitely very unusual and not at all what one would expect at your age. I am at a loss.

Walt
