Vit E and DVT

In March I was building tension towards DVT and treated it with conventional allopathic drugs, namely Low Molecular Weight Heparin injections(LMWH). I am one of those people who react dramatically to LMWH and Wafarin Sodium, the two treatments available conventionally for DVTs.

Five days ago I began developing a new blood clot. This time I decided to hell with it, I will take my chances with alternative medicine. I began treatment with 1200 IU of Vit E daily( taken twice a day to spread the dosage out)continued with my goat's milk tablets and introduced something called " Tian Qi" ( Panax Notoginseng), a chinese herbal blood thinner. I am happy to report that this treatment has been successful, my leg is back to normal, no oedema in my ankle and no pain in my leg.

Just wanted to share this with everyone.

Thanks, Zarin.

I did not know of this option.

Now, how can this be used for prevention for people like you who seem to have this repeatedly?

Walt

I found this alternative on the internet. Apparently one can take up to 3600 IU of Vit E per day. I cannot remember the link but it is there on the Protein S deficiency website, and the URL for that is http://www.protein.org.uk/forum

Routinely I take 400 IU of Vit E. In March, I was moving house, and had lost Moon my beautiful Collie, so I was rather distressed and disorganised, so I am guessing I had been careless with my diet and not compensated for that with an increase in my Vit E dosage, thus resulting in the blood clots.

Right now as the oedema has subsided, I have dropped my dosage down to 800 IU of Vit E and continue with with goat's milk tablets and the chinese "southern ginseng" tablets and feel fine.

I dont know if many people are aware, but 400 IU of Vit E will effectively zap all Vit K that one may have ingested in way of green vegetables etc. I follow a strict diet of no vegetables containing Vit K.

Hi Jayne, a blood clot is painful. I have had major surgeries like a hysterectomy, a fistulectomy and whatever else, but I can honestly say that a DVT is the most painful thing I have ever experienced, and I have a very high threshold of pain. It is like having a heart attack, only it occurs elsewhere, like in the leg( most commonly). Some times it is so severe that I use a walking stick as I am unable to put weight on the leg that has had a DVT.

If anyone does experience symptoms of a DVT it is important to use a compression bandage on the affected leg to prevent the clot from travelling while you seek treatment to dissolve the clot.
