vericose veins.

I read an archive written in 1998 & responded to by Dr. Stoll. I have severe vericose veins--they look like ropes. I've lost 148# & still have about 60 more to go. My Mother had problems with vericose veins & had surgery once. My problem is now the pain. I walk a mile a day, but each day it requires more effort because of the pain. I went to a vascular sugeon & he said if I had surgery for the deep vein (that was causing the visible large veins) that it would only help about 50% of the pain. I don't want to have surgery, but I can't imagine living with this pain the rest of my life. After I read the 1998 note to Peggy, I decided to start on E & the other mentioned vitamins. I will also go & get something to wear on my legs. Please let me know of any new surgery & your opinion about what to do. Thank you for your help. I'm 43 yrs. old & have had 5 children. We're traveling next weekend & I noticed on your article to have the legs at hip level unless I can get out every 10 minutes. The trip is 2 1/2 hrs. Do you have any suggestions other than sitting in the back seat with my legs up? I have a little clostrophobia & don't like sitting in the back. Thank you

Dear Yvonne, there is probably somebody with good advice about this, in the mean time I can offer something that is very helpful. It's cheap for the good it does.

It's a capsule called Celluvar, and it's made by Phytopharmica in Green Bay Wishconsin. It's the best there is, it treats the vericose and the spider veins, you take it for a couple weeks and you'll see the difference because it strengthsn all the veins.

They have it on the web, is http://www.vitaminusa.com/celclicforde.html at a good price. Believe me it works., my sister had awful veins and they'r e gone now. She had them from childbrith.

Thank you Bounder for the information. I'll go to a health food store & look into it. Thanks again.

Hi, Yvonne.

First: If your deep veins are involved already it is too late for surgery to resolve most of the problem. Only elastic hose (FROM THE KNEES DOWN!), & elevation, will help. Losing weight is also helpful but it is too late for that to resolve this problem too. Once the valves of the deep veins are gone, you have waited too long to lose your weight.

That does not mean that your weight loss will not help. Your problem will get WORSE unless you lose weight. Do not wait until you develop ulcers of your ankles!

Rebounding, gently, for a few miinutes MANY times a day, will help the lymph system take over some of the work of those deep veins.

Let us know how you do.

Walt

Thank you for your comments about the vericose veins. You mentioned "rebounding" gently several times a day. Is walking considered rebounding? I walk a mile in the morning & try to walk fast. I've noticed on days I walk, my legs feel worse in the evening. Should I walk slower since you mentioned "gently" rebounding. Should I try to walk less several times or still walk a mile in the morning & then several times later in the day? Why should the hose be only to the knees since the upper leg is what is hurting. I don't question what you said, I just wanted to know for my benefit in case my children ask. I really appreciate your help. What are ulcers of the ankles? Is it like veins that are showing outside the skin like I have on the legs? Thanks again. Yvonne

Hi, Yvonne

I don't know answers to every one of your questions but I'll take one one of them.

Rebounding refers to bouncing on a piece of exercise equipment called a rebounder (exercise rebounder, mini trampoline). You can put "rebounder" in the search window to read more.

Its great for exercising and it also draws kids rather magnetically (I don't know how old yours are - but my 2 young ones love it). So this is a great way to get the circulation (and lymph too) flowing to and away that doesn't have the tough impact of walking or running. They are designed so that on the bounce you reach zero G's.

Do you also try to elevate your legs when you get the chance?

June

Dr. Stoll,
I sent another letter on the 6th with a few questions. I also would like to know if there's any natural remedy to help circulation that you know about. Thank you

Dr. Stoll
I didn't tell you that I also have restless leg syndrome. The Dr. gave me carbidopa/levo 25. It works great & I'm able to sleep, but I wonder if this can have anything to do with my leg pain getting worse from the valves not working. I'm sorry I've sent you so many notes--I just have a lot of unanswered questions. I really appreciate your concern. Is vericose veins one of your subjects in your book? Thank you again, Yvonne ps Even though I've lost 148#, it seems to get a lot harder now to lose & I know I have to do it for my legs. Do you have any ideas that will help? I eat 2 proteins, many vegetables, 2 starches, 2 dairy & 2 fruit a day. Thanks again

Yvonne.

Rebounding is DEFINITELY NOT walking. To see what it uniquely would do for your problem listen to June and read about Rebounding in your library.

Look up the word skin ulcers in your medical book or go to the library and ask for a book with pictures about varicose ulcers.

Hi, Yvonne.

Remember, I try to stay 48 hours behind postings to give others a chance to respond.

Restless Legs Syndrome would aggravate varicose veins since the bracing of the muscles would tend to act as a tourniquet for the veins. That leaves the lymph system MUCH more importnat for relieving the pressure (rebounding).

Have you read about RLS in the glossary and archives?

Walt

Thank you for your responses. I've gone to the dr. again & he's ordered compression hose--they've helped with the pain. He said my veins are the worst he's ever seen & he's considering sending me to another vascular surgeon who specializes in my problem. I'm going to get a small trampeline to help with the rebounding. Thank you again for your help. Yvonne
