Dear doctor,
I am 22 and have had Vericose veins for as long as I can remember. When I was little I blew up very fast. I was 160 pounds when I was 13. I've grown into my weight and have had an active life for 11 years know with sports and working out. Recently I've noticed the veins getting substantially worse and bruising is appearing. I have always had really bad circulation, I get the pins and needles very easy-I can hardly put my hair up without losing circulation to my arms. I feel as though this is why I have vericose veins, so my question is: If I get the shot that makes them disappear will it work on me? Or is my circulation problem so bad that it will have no effect. I am in good health and have been for as long as I know. I just have bad circulation, no heart disease in my family.

Hi - Maybe you are working out too strenuously for the varicose veins. I did this when I thought that jumping on a trampoline would surely help my circulation and therefore, my varicose veins; but I was wrong - I, too, noticed bruising and where the bruising was later appeared more varicose veins. They advise against jumping or running or any forceful excercise when you have varicose veins. You could get a trampoline and bounce on it gently, and as your varicose veins feel better, you could probably go back to playing sports. This is not a doctor's opinion - just my experience.

Hi, Michelle.
Raisa is right about gentle rebounding helping.
You obviously do have a genetic propensity to vascular problems. The newest breakthrough in medicine is the Humnan Genome Project and through it we are now seeing that only about 20% of what we experience with our genes is due to the genes and the other 80% is due to what we DO with our genes [phenome] (lifestyle that IS under our conscious control).
What this means is that you CAN learn enough to CHANGE your propensity to this problem.
I hope this helps.
Walt
