I've read thru the archives on Vit. E for spider veins and
have heard 2 recommended dosages: 1000 units of natural Vit.
E 1x/day and 1000 units of natural Vit. E 2x/day. Which
dosage is best and how does Vit. E help?
Thanks.

Hi, Trudy - I have both spider veins and varicose veins.
I have had spider veins since my teen years, and got varicose veins after pregnancies.
When I found this site, I learned about taking Vitamin E, and I now take 800 mg. per day (capsule form). I believe that Dr. Stoll said that taking more than l000 mg. wouldn't harm a person, but also wouldn't help and so would be a waste of money. The Vitamin E capsules have helped me tremendously...I think because they have helped improve the circulation in my legs, etc. So, it wouldn't hurt to take the Vitamin E. Hope this helps. Raisa

Hi, Trudy.
Listen to Raisa.
I do not think anyone knows how vitamin E helps your veins and it does not help everyone. Since it is safe, and relatively inexpensive, what do you have to lose by trying it?
Let us know how you do.

Have you seen a decrease in the varicose veins in your legs?

Thanks Raisa. How long have you been taking the Vit. E?
And, how long did it take before you noticed an improvement?

Hi - I'm not sure if any of them disappeared, but there is much less bulging out and definitely the color of my legs has improved tremendously. The places with spider and varicosities were bluish-red and were very warm to the touch. Also, my legs, especially the one with the most varicose veins felt achy and tingly. Now, even when I stand in one place for a while (which I try not to do)they do not ache or tingle. I still use the trampoline to gently jump but not often enough. I know that has helped too. Raisa

Hi, Trudy -
I had been taking 200 mg of Vitamin E sporadically and then I believe it was the end of April, this year, that I started taking 800mg. I noticed a difference in about a week. Also, I was doing gentle bouncing on my trampoline. Have you considered buying a trampoline? Even if you bounce just for 5 minutes several times a day, it helps the circulation a lot. Your feet should not leave the trampoline when you have varicose veins, but there are many things you can do without jumping.
I like to gently bounce to music. I don't like to walk because we don't have sidewalks and I hate the fumes from the cars whizzing by. Do you exercise much? Hope this helps. Raisa

Hi Raisa,
Thanks so much for the info. I was taking 1000 units of
VIT. E/2xday. I guess I'll cut back my dose now. I will
look into getting a trampoline. Are they expensive? Where
did you purchase yours? How long do you need to bounce on
it a day? And, you said, "Your feet shouldn't leave the
trampoline when you have varicose veins." Why is that?
I exercise 3x/week (biking, weights, jogging). I've heard
that jogging is not good for people with varicose veins...Do
you know if this is true?
Sorry for all the questions.
Thanks again.

Hi, Trudy -
You can buy very inexpensive mini-trampolines at places like K-Mart. I bought mine from the Rebound Institute because I knew that my grandchildren and children would be bouncing on it and I didn't want it to wear out quickly from that.
The reason jumping is not recommended is that it is too high impact and will encourage more varicose veins to form. That actually happened to me because when I first got the mini-trampoline I was too over-zealous. It was so much fun, and I was skipping, doing jumping jacks, etc. Then one day I noticed a large bruise on the back of my leg, and then I had two new varicosities! They have gone down now and have practically disappeared, but that is when I learned from Dr. Stoll that when you have a tendency to get these varicose veins you should only bounce gently. As I said before, there are many ways to bounce on the trampoline without jumping. They do say that a person should not jog for the same reason--there is much more impact from jogging on a hard surface.
Below is a link which you will find helpful. You will find all kinds of questions and information. If I were you I would get the less expensive (under $30) one for just exercising. I got one with a bar (I keep my martini on it.
:o ). I felt safer with the bar, but they say you really don't need one, since the trampoline is so close to the floor and you get used to it quickly.
Hope this has helped, along with the link. Let me know.

Thanks, Raisa.
Vitamin E does more to prevent the progression of this problem than cure it. The same is true of rebounding. Also, in those who have a genetic predisposition, it would be a good idea to do this to help prevent that genome from becoming a phenome.
